Have you fukking seen Alien 3? All the characters that you cared about in Aliens were killed off at the very beginning, the whole movie has a dreary depressing aura about it.

EVERY ALIEN FILM IS DARK AND BROODING... the hell u talking about??? it's a HORROR SCI-FI FLICK! :mindblown:

Spielberg flopped earlier in his Career. But No DIRECTOR in HISTORY has more Classics Than Steven Did in his 1st 10 years since his debut:

Jaws
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Raiders of the Lost Ark
E.T.

spielberg's 1st failure was that 1941 film.

Alien 3 was considered a failure no matter how you view it. It was a mess from the go. Fincher made it a watchable flick but still, it was critically shelled.

What about Matthew Vaughn?

I wouldn't describe the previous alien films as "dark and brooding" they were more intense and scary. Alien 3 was literally depressing and really bleak.

40 Million Budget, even if you add the overseas, it made 69 Million more minus it's budget. That's not really a commercial success. Profitable, sure but commercial success?. Again people don't understand how the industry works. Studios do not get 100% of of theater profits. Prestige was not considered a huge success. Just cause it made profit doesn't make a commercial success.

Especially since it came off of the heels of The Illusionist, which did much better at the box office. I didn't even think about The Prestige until DVD release.

it STILL made profit, no matter HOW u want to spin it. even domestically. it made profit. as many films that sold UNDER the buget that got it made.

Just because it makes a profit does not mean it's a commercial success. Spider-Man 3 is not considered a commercial success, and it made a profit.

still not a flop. Regardless of how you look at it, it was a success on both ends.

:snoop: spider-man 3 was a COMMERCIAL SUCCESS.. u are confusing it with being a CRITICAL FAILURE. that movie MADE $$$

the prestige DOUBLED its earnings from the budget that it had... it was no in no way a FLOP.
