Dude I'm telling you, Alien 3 is really fukking good. The directors cut is much more faithful to Finchers vision for the film and gives much more context and character development. He hated making the film because it went through production hell because the studio didn't trust Fincher enough to let him do what he wanted to do.

"Alien 3" only gets hate cause "Alien and Aliens" are Classics. I liked it very much and the ending closed out the series perfectly. Until they ruined it making that terrible "Alien Resurrection". I never saw the Director's cut. I'm fine with the original version. Fincher brought it back to Alien part 1 by having 1 Alien and taking the weapons away was perfect. That brought so much suspense and tension. Also having Ripley be the one to finally have a Alien in her was an amazing plot point. The only criticism I have besides killing off Nute and Hicks was the other characters outside of maybe the Rock you didn't really care for. I know it was a prison full of murderers and rapist but there aren't that many memorable characters. Fincher is a beast though.

Prestige cost 40 Million and made 53 Million domestically. That's not a commercial success. I know you want to add in worldwide but when a studio shells out 40 Million they expect more than 13 Million more. Also the studio does not get 100% of theater grosses, 30-40% goes to theater owners. So Prestige was not that profitable at all. Also it got ok reviews, not great. Top critics have it at 60% on RT. Nolan's having a good run but you take out The Batman Franchise (Which was already a successful franchise on it's own) outside of Inception his movies haven't blown the box office apart.

so you only going off whut it made in the US?? and claim it not profited at all because JUST US sales and pretend international sales are pointless? :rudy:

then trying to split hairs with TOP CRITIC numbers?? (which STILL ends up being a FRESH on rottentomatoes)

nice try thou....

Both 'Alien 3' and 'Alien Resurrection' were two films ruined by studio interference. Both had great directors behind the helm, so why didn't the studios just trust them to do what they wanted? You don't try to make directors like Fincher and Jeunet into lackeys.

i CAN concede with FINCHER only because resurrection was MUCH MUCH worse and the film was still a commercial success. but, it's hard to really concede it when THE DIRECTOR admits it to being a bad film!

well, i dunno about jeunet, but i believe had this been fincher NOW..they would of gave him all creative freedom.

which was interesting, considering WB didn't give nolan creative freedom for insomnia, yet it was still both a commercial and critical success.

Domestic: $53,089,891 48.4%
+ Foreign: $56,586,420 51.6%
= Worldwide: $109,676,311

40 Million Budget, even if you add the overseas, it made 69 Million more minus it's budget. That's not really a commercial success. Profitable, sure but commercial success?. Again people don't understand how the industry works. Studios do not get 100% of of theater profits. Prestige was not considered a huge success. Just cause it made profit doesn't make a commercial success.

it STILL made profit, no matter HOW u want to spin it. even domestically. it made profit. as many films that sold UNDER the buget that got it made.

You gotta see the directors cut breh... its fukking :ahh:

The entire production process spoiled his view on the film, and frankly I don't give a fukk whether he likes it or not, when you're making a film its like your baby, so you're much more critical of yourself than anyone else will be towards your material. It's still a really good film. Also a lot of people were thrown off by it because of how dark/depressing and brooding the film was.

^^^This.

It's usually the studios... the people in charge that f*ck up a talented director's work of art.

Alien Resurrection was written by Josh Wedon, that dude who directed Firefly and Avengers and they still fukked it up.

At least we got this out of it though.
