But this is the problem: people do not give a shyt. If they gave a shyt they would of never let Trump get elected. All Democrats, whether they are centrists or progressives, need to understand the people they are trying to reach are simple minded and surface level thinkers.

You can not give an educated or intelligent statement and expect it to "hit", you need to dumb down the message and hammer that shyt. When Democrats actually speak to the people at their level, they will do better.
I believe progressives do just that and well as you believe that they believe what they say. That is why they have been able to grab a young audience.

Just look at the difference between AOC and Hakeem Jeffries interview with Jon Stewart

Who cares about a "young audience" when they do not vote in nearly the same numbers as older people? If you are running for office the last group you should be worrying about is young people.

When i say simple, i mean simple. When i dumb it down, i mean dumb it down. The thing that Republicans have mastered is fear mongering, something the Democrats do not seem to be willing to do.

When Trump and his cronies were saying basically, "They are going to have men in women's sports!" "DEI/WOKE" or "Food prices!" and the rest of the shyt, Democrats were putting out shyt about abortion rights and and other messaging that did not resonate with people that pay no attention to news and all of the Trump fukkery.

But in the end it is also the people's fault: not participating in the voting process for decades has led to a Democratic party that has shown it is not serious about winning. Complain about Pelosi, Schumer and the rest but they keep getting elected. Complain about feckless politicians but keep letting them squeak by because most people are not paying attention to politics. Complain about the political process but do not vote.

The blame should be equally shared with the politicians and the people that vote them in or do not vote at all.

All they had to do to get young voters was not sponsor genocide. People don't vote because they feel there are no significant material improvements to gain by voting democrat or republican. The dems entire strategy for the last 8 years has been fearmongering. "We aint gonna do too much for you, but the republicans will destroy life as we know it so you got no choice to vote for us." I mean none of that statement is false, but it's quite obvious that such a strategy will inevitably breed resentment. Fearmongering works better on stupid people and the GOP has a much dumber base so the same strategies that are viable with the GOP won't work for dems. Unfortunately for the dems they have to actually excite people with policy that will make significant, not nominal, improvements in the lives of Americans. I say unfortunately because this means they will have to cross their corporate donors

Depending on young voters to lead you to victory is almost always a failure waiting to happen and if you can not understand why it is a bad idea to have Republicans in charge, then you are lost anyways.

It is and always have been the people's responsibility to put in competent people into office but most people do not vote in primaries where which Democrat will run is chosen. You can not either not vote or keep voting in the same people then complain about not being "excited" later.

You do not like the people in office and what they are doing? Organize and make your concerns known to them. If they do not act on those concerns, vote them out and put someone in that will.

Expecting a politician that got elected with at least less than 50% of eligible voters to suddenly care about you and your needs is idiotic. That is some backwards ass shyt.

Yes because relying on young voters failed spectacularly in 2008 when Obama got 66% of voters from 18-29, after 51% of eligible 18-29 voters voted. It also failed spectacularly again when 55% of young voters showed up in 2020 and Biden got 60% of their votes.

Reading is fundamental. "We aint gonna do too much for you, but the republicans will destroy life as we know it so you got no choice to vote for us." I mean none of that statement is false, but it's quite obvious that such a strategy will inevitably breed resentment.

Percentage of the voting group is not the point, but it is the amount of people voting in that voter group that matters and young people are the smallest group.

Democrats' messaging was not that dire, or at least about what people were concerned about. Abortion and other issues spoken in nuanced language is not the same as "They are cutting your medicare/gov assistance" or something similar. But a big reason for that is the campaign was run from a corporate position so messaging that would of work was not allowed.

What does Citizen's united have to do with what i said, at all?

Because just relying on old people will not change much. Older people already know who they will vote for and a lot of old people are stuck in their ways which is how we ended up with Trump twice. Young population is barely tapped and they are the ones that aren't afraid of change

Young people for decades have had every reason to make sure their concerns and needs were taken care of, but they consistently vote in much lower numbers than other age groups.

I will be 40 in a few weeks and i have heard every excuse from young people why they are not voting or care about politics. They will however complain about college tuition. They will complain about lack of jobs. They will complain about housing prices. They will complain about everything but will not use political power to get what they want.

If you can not understand why not being politically active is against your interests, then you are a stupid motherfukker that will get feasted on by those that do.

We are the same age and I have only missed one election since I have been able to vote (it was an local election and I thought I can make it before going to work but I woke up late). I have heard all the excuses for not voting and a lot of those same people I heard it from in my twenties are saying the same thing in their late thirties. When people don't see improvements from president to president, and progressive presidents with policies that they agree with get shut down by their own party and have older people disparaging them for having progressive policies then you just create more resentment. Those potential young voters become old non voters, so now candidates are working with a smaller pool of potential voters

38% stayed at home and 30% voting for Harris

We are at where we are because we let 32% of the voting eligible population decide the direction to take this country.

All of what you are saying is still the fault of the voter (or non voter). We live in a democracy, not a dictatorship or a democracy where you disappear for voting wrong. You have the responsibility of selecting the best person available at the primaries and voting to get them in.

Talking about being "discouraged" or "resentful" being reason why people are not voting is hilarious. If you do not see improvement with the politicians that are getting voted in with few people voting, THEN VOTE! There is no excuse to not vote if you are not rich or wealthy at all and even they participate in the process more than poor people.

We have to at some point stop blaming everything except the voter or non voter for the mess we are in. There is no excuse good enough to take away blame from people repeatedly voting in shyt or not voting at all.
