The thing is, the past is the prologue. There hasn’t been a candidate who isn’t in the top 4 around this point to become his or her party's nominee in 40 years or so. In that sense, it is very appropriate. As for the thread title? Bernie lost the last election because he couldn’t win over black voters in the south. That is what gave Hillary an insurmountable lead. If you’re a progressive then you have to be tuned into how he has improved in that area. I don’t care about the rat race and more about policy. There is no progressive movement without older black voters and specifically black women. His entire SheThePeople fukk up was problematic. How do you manage to fukk up a question about what you will do about white supremacy? All he had to do was show empathy. How then does Nina Turner scold people for that in front of a mostly white audience the next day? He was greeted with thunderous applause and fukked it up. Organizing begins way before those southern primaries. And his team had a bad week. I’m not concerned with all that other shyt people are talking about.
Here's the truth about these lines of questions.
Why are you asking those questions to begin with? or you trying to get one of them caught up in a gotcha or do you really want specific policy for black people?
Here's the problem with saying this policy A and B are for black people. That hasnt happened since probably jim crow, when they said these policies are for white people and we have these laws and policy to harm black people. No one has policies broken down by race. they have policies broken down by other groups, LGBT(not a race), Women(not a race), etc. So people need to stop asking for that...UNLESS they arent afraid to ask the real questions and ask about reparations. and when they grill someone on reparations. You better be voting for one of the candidates who are for reparations. and that will almost never be any of the super mainstream candidates. If you dont vote for said person. then you are just trying to get someone caught up in saying the wrong thing.
Bernie is not for reparations and cash payments. Why? because bernie has this universal-ism thought process. If you raise everyone up thats down, everyone even those on the bottom will rise up with the wave.
Which is actually true. which is why i would vote for bernie. But there is the other part that only non mainstream people in the race for prez will speak on. And thats the fact that, If black folks has 3X less wealth than whites in 2019, and if we got a bernie in office with a demo-socialist 100% congress. and he got to put in all of his policies with the full support of congress. Overall black people's lives will be made better. But there's a difference between making my life better vs making these fair.'
if I'm unemployed today. but i end up employed making 40k a year tomorrow because of bernie. thanks bernie. But if my white counterpart is already making 120k, and he/she also gets a nice bernie bump. all that will do is raise us both up. but my position in life is still 3X less wealthy than my white counterpart. That is why you need specific policies basicallly reparations for black people. there is no other way to cut that wealth gap down. All the politicians know this, but not one of them aside from the non mainstream options are willing to speak to that.
