Yeah the defense was bad but the bengals had no choice in this matter. People kept talking about how owners cheap and stuff.

Now they spend the money to keep the offense together

they could have traded one for some help on defense. paying that much for 2 guys at the same position is wild especially with a trash D and o-line

the worse thing ever was going to the superbowl with this head coach, bought him way too much time to waste Burrows prime.

Its a travesty they didnt make the playoffs this year.

Higgins got the number 2 receiver market all fukked up now :pachaha:

Never thought the Bengals would do it props to them though

Burrow showed them his numbers without Higgins playing and Mike Brown was probably like "Go get me a Pen Barrow" :stopitslime:

"It's Burrow":francis:

"Whatever. How much I need to Pay Huggies. What am I buying diapers here" :stopitslime:

Now let me fly out to Cincy and try out for corner cause they aint going to have nothing but league min money to sign a defense and I am down to avoid tackling on the edges for 1.1 million :wow:
Nah...aint no other team that is serious about winning gonna be silly enough to follow suit.

Why are people acting like trading Higgins was gonna single handily fix their defense?
The Bengals real problem is they haven’t drafted well or signed any good FAs since that SB.

Sure trading Higgins would have got you some draft picks. But those picks are unproven and the GM hasn’t proven to be a good talent evaluator anyway.
And how will any of that be better with half your cap tied up in 3 guys...that all overlap...that have proven they can miss the playoffs in back to back years while making less money? It wasnt gonna single handedly fix it but their options going forward are severly limited now.

If the bengals front office believe that their window is open for the foreseeable future then they’ll have time to fix the defense and get back to the SB. All three guys are in their 20s. It’s not like everyone is expecting them to fall off in a year or two.

People try to use the Cheifs trading Tyreke as an example but they already had a great team in place with a SB. They just had to shuffle the deck a little.

I agree with some of what you are saying, but you damn well know that if the Bengals didn't sign Tee Higgins and let him go that people would say "Bungles gonna Bungle!" and call them cheap. And, if they didn't re-sign Higgins and Chase misses some time, they would be in trouble as well.

Not saying I think this move with work out or won't work out, but I get it from the Bengals side, and now they have a happy QB.

Everyone thought they should trade Tee because they had to pay Chase at a price near or exceeding Justin Jefferson. With the WR's in last year's draft they could have easily moved him and drafted someone.

Not what I would've done but at least they'll be entertaining, I suppose.

Bengals basically need to hit a straight flush on their draft picks to compensate. That's a lot of $$$ tied into skill position guys

Any other team giving their number 2 receiver over 100 targets a season will cause if they don't who knows what the offense will look like.

What exactly is the falloff from missing the playoffs breh? Time doesnt fix anything in sports...ability and money do. You just said they arent good at scouting and now they arent gonna have a lot of money to work with. So where is that fix coming from?

Forget the Chiefs...what about the Bills? They got rid of Diggs and didnt miss a beat. Ravens never had anything close to a Higgins, let alone Chase, let alone both and they own the Bengals and actually make the playoffs. These the dudes that Burrow supposed to be peers with. Why is it too much to expect him to match them with "just" Chase?

And thats another thing...few teams have a 1, let alone a 2 as good as Higgins. So its unlikely for a team to even be in this position. And we know what the smart, well ran ones would do vs the others.

That’s a different conversation as you’re talking about LAST year. This is about what they did at this current point in time. When your franchise QB wants deals done for his top weapons, GM’s and ownership will likely listen.
