Like I've said on here before, not mad at the amount they paid in a vacuum but from a team building perspective it's dumb as hell. It'd be one thing if you already had a solid surrounding cast of young players on cheap deals already in place. But considering how bad their OL and D is this deal with cripple their ability to build a well rounded team unless they hit on every single draft pick for the next two years.

They had Tee and Chase last season and didn't make the playoffs. Now Chase is the highest paid non QB and Tee is getting top 5 WR money:mjlol:

Lamar is 10-2 vs Cincinnati with Great Value WR's.

They're about to pay Hendrickson too so probably 70% of the cap will be on 4 players.

They did have a choice as teams were trying to trade for Tee the last two seasons. Could have moved him and drafted a cheap replacement.

You have to extend players as soon as possible. You wait an extra year and the market goes up which forces you to pay more.

i mean folks were calling the bengals cheap and everything for wanting to break up their calling card which is the offense. thats where i meant they had no choice. they had to change public perception of not wanting to pay to keep the stars

if they traded Higgins folks would be calling them "bungels" or cheap still for trading Higgins no matter the haul they get would probably help the team more

Smart or stupid?

I say stupid. Short term win because they managed to keep Higgins but how long until they're crying about oline or defense again?

Top dog QBs don't need stacked wr corps, more of a nice to have.

Not saying whether it was smart or stupid. I can see arguments both ways.

-People have said for years that the Bengals are cheap and don't pay their top players. Well, they just paid their two best outside of Burrow (and Hendrickson).

-Their franchise QB wanted them back, and they were brought back. When you have a happy QB, things tend to go better for you.

-Having Burrow, Chase, and Higgins take up about 45% of the teams cap space is extremely risky though. One injury can spell major trouble.

At the end of the day, whether it works out or not, I do think fans of the Bengals will be happy that their team actually spent money on their top players. It's not like Chase and Higgins are aging WR's on the wrong side of 30. They are young and do have a chance to do some damage to the NFL over the next five years.

I agree with some of what you are saying, but you damn well know that if the Bengals didn't sign Tee Higgins and let him go that people would say "Bungles gonna Bungle!" and call them cheap. And, if they didn't re-sign Higgins and Chase misses some time, they would be in trouble as well.

Not saying I think this move with work out or won't work out, but I get it from the Bengals side, and now they have a happy QB.

Stop this straw man bullshyt. Most people were saying well before this offseason that the smart move is to trade one of the WRs to fill out the roster more. There is no grand conspiracy to shyt on the Bengals.

Ima ask the same thing about this #1 overall pick number 9 that I asked about another one that played in a city about 4 hours north (Stafford) for years...

What is the point in paying this man top dollar if you are just gonna turn around and devote all these resources to supporting him...and yall still missing the playoffs? You pay him like that so that he can carry the offense while you devote resources elsewhere.

I know, I know...

Bu..bu...but he lost a SB back when this years graduates were freshmen :mjlol:.

That was on his rookie deal. Homey aint made the playoffs since he got paid and now you paying both of his WR.

All I know is there are no excuses. You cant talk about defense or O-line when you got basically half your cap tied into 3 people that all overlap.

yeah paying both of these guys top 5 money including Chase making QB level money is crazy.

Higgins is like a 1000/8TD WR in this offense, assuming he's healthy the entire year…

They really didn’t NEED to lock him down. They could have traded him, drafted a WR and been straight. Or got 90% of that production from someone like Diggs and not be tied to him for the next 4-5 years.

Higgins got the number 2 receiver market all fukked up now :pachaha:

Never thought the Bengals would do it props to them though

Burrow showed them his numbers without Higgins playing and Mike Brown was probably like "Go get me a Pen Barrow" :stopitslime:

"It's Burrow":francis:

"Whatever. How much I need to Pay Huggies. What am I buying diapers here" :stopitslime:

Now let me fly out to Cincy and try out for corner cause they aint going to have nothing but league min money to sign a defense and I am down to avoid tackling on the edges for 1.1 million :wow:

Why are people acting like trading Higgins was gonna single handily fix their defense?
The Bengals real problem is they haven’t drafted well or signed any good FAs since that SB.

Sure trading Higgins would have got you some draft picks. But those picks are unproven and the GM hasn’t proven to be a good talent evaluator anyway.
