Both the B. Coming and Solution almost sniffed Gold…

Beans was still killing features. I can imagine him being on the DJ Drama album from 2007.
In 2007 beanie would be lucky to max out a 200k lifetime

If he could not sell when records were moving. why in the hell would he when cats wasnt selling?

I think people wanted the roc to go all out on him like fukk every one else including Jay

And force beans to be a star

I think that’s what people are saying

Never mind beans being drugged out and unreliable

Just go all in

It’s not good business

But hey

Perfect segue; I was gonna mention the freeway album bc it destroys your argument

An album co-produced by jay z and 50 cent. A jay feature, a 50 feature, Rick ross, marsha ambrosius, busta rhymes, Scarface, jadaksis….and it did nothing.

You answered why without knowing it. ‘They didn’t promote it’. Yea you’re almost there, they didn’t promote it bc it wouldn’t sell! That genre of rap was dead. I didn’t say east coast rap died. Street based authentic rap died. If you were there you would remember plenty of rappers got caught in the middle of that. Papoose and Saigon come to mind. In any other era they blow. But their style became outdated

Also listen to what you’re saying. So 50 cent was washed and outdated but you’re expecting Freeway, beans and Peedi crack to sell :what:

Lastly you’re speaking in circles about the south. If you can’t differentiate between the no limit era rap game vs the post 2000s era rap game we can end this here

I was around 21/22 when The Solution and Free At Last dropped, special time in my life, but no one really paid much attention.

It was the end of that era. And I loved those albums back then. Bought both day 1.

Exactly. Same for me

It’s revisionist af to point to promotion or marketing. The rap game was undergoing a generational once in a lifetime shift and a lot of guys got caught in it. There was no scenario where any of these nggas was gonna be stars/again. The fanbase changed. The vehicle to stardom changed. Hell the vehicle to distribute music changed

Musically Beans did fall off but Free didn’t

Free at last
Before that, Countdown to Free at Last
Month of madness :banderas:

But it didn’t matter. These nggas was not fans like that but 15+ years later chiming in ‘They didn’t promote him :troll:

It just passed everyone by. That's how age and time happens, without you noticing almost.

Sigel got an R Kelly feature for the single, a The Runners beat, it was called All Of The Above. Did nothing. And the album was kinda fire. Always been a big Sigel fan, and he didn't lose many steps to me.

Free got a single with 50, a Jay feature like you said, and it did nothing. The narrative was that Jay didn't promote them, but there wasn't anything to be done. The tastes of consumer had changed. Kanye and Wayne dominated and the east coast thugged out 50 Cent was out.

That’s a common theme with Jay-Z/Rocafella detractors

They wrongfully assume you can “make” someone a star. Probably in the 90s you could :jbhmm: but that play died

They also never acknowledge jay being heavy handed pushing that freeway album, Uncle Murda, Aztec, Tru Life, etc. or the fact there’s a Amil album in the bushes somewhere with 3 jay features and a Beyonce track :comeon:

This was the single in 2007

compare that what was selling

Exactly. They was running old plays and found out it didn’t work anymore.

Also a bit of sad irony is it changed to now the new R&b artists piggybacked off the rappers to break. Even tho the rappers themselves didn’t pop. Used them like a Trojan horse to get in the ‘urban’ market

Chris brown first single with….Santana
Neyo first single with ….Peedi

shyt is like a company having you train the ngga that you don’t know is gon replace you :martin:

Try playing that All of The Above now

super basic, super basic, R&B hook, three 16's, this was like a 1997 formula. With the mafiaoso overtones.

wow

2007 was a transition year and if you were in it, you couldn't see it as much as now. I was playing street shyt like this all day in 2007, but also Lil' Wayne and everything trendsetting he was doing, with creative shyt. I Feel Like Dying and all that shyt.

By 2009 the transition was complete, and it wasn't this.

What “promotion” did he need and would’ve gotten somewhere else?

I covered all this already.

yall still playing the same games on this site.

None of that matters if nobody knows that freeways album is dropping.

Lol @ papoose, Saigon. You naming random new york rappers that were never popular outside of NYC. 😆

50 cent was gangsta-pop and grasping at straws to maintain the sales that he was accustomed to. That has nothing to do with this, and thats why I said to leave all that 50/kanye stuff out of this discussion. You're mish-meshing stuff that you really don't gave a full grasp of.

Yes, peedi was supposed to be a star. That's some other stuff that happened. Nobody was talking about him. Stay on point.

Beans & free should've been able to maintain their careers, in the same manner as a jadakiss at the time. These were accomplished rappers, and all of their previous works were a success. Then as soon as jay is at the helm, their projects just get thrown to the wayside and he refused to let them go afterwards. Man get outta here with this nonsense. We know what it is, and this was a big struggle during ricafella's heyday. It's only a matter of time before they start hitting that topic in thee videos.

Beans know his drug addiction ruined his career. Jay gave beans more shine that fukking bleek

No he didn't.

Bleek got more promo. Beans just sold more.

Its that simple

beans was a amazing artist but he was his own downfall

can you imagine jadakiss going in and out of jail in his carreer what we would have missed out on?

That would've helped jada actually.

Catching cases would've helped jada's profile ALOT.

In 2007 beanie would be lucky to max out a 200k lifetime

If he could not sell when records were moving why in the hell would he when cats wasnt selling?

who told yall beans couldn't sell?

prime beans sold more than he was projected to sell, everytime out.

given the lack of radio/video exposure, mixed with his target market being bootleg capitals, his numbers were crazy.

No, people just wanted to see these aryists get a fsir shot and at least respectable promotion.

Instead their projects were just tossed out there while their boss had enough promotion to run against Obama.

Politics killed peedi. The demand was there.

Did you just say Santana didn't pop? I'm done talking to you bro.

Again what “promo” does a guy who peaked at a gold plaque 7 years prior was supposed to get in 2007?

He got an rkelly feature, a video for the debut single it bombed and that was that.

And few rappers were going platinum in the late '00s.

:dead: @ thinking you’re right and everybody else is wrong

There so much I can dissect but I’ll just pick this. Who said Jadakiss maintained his career at that time ? :gucci: Kiss, like almost everyone else, was in the wilderness. Last Kiss was ASSCHEEKS. :laff: I exaggerate slightly, but the point is it came and went. This despite a murderers row of features: Mary J, prime Jeezy, Pharrell, Wayne, Nas, Ghostface, and Ne-Yo :picard: Notice a trend yet?! Beans ft R Kelly, Free ft 50, etc. The old playbook didn’t work anymore

Kiss’ “career” as a traditional rap star was over. He had to make a way in other avenues. Styles P was the one who kept the flag up bc he fully embraced the new era of constant mixtapes (shout out Spitta). Jadakiss was MIA

Bonus: Was you outside? If you were, you’ll remember this track:

Once again we have jay z trying to throw his weight to help artists and it did NOTHING
