It's been quite awful... the pain coupled with the time constraints of a young child... my motivation to lift has been way down.

At my peak before all of this, I weighed 230. Now I'm down to 170.

:wow:

Bro, sorry to hear about your back injuries, and hope they arent life long ones.

Seriously though, there is NO need to deadlift more then about 250-300. Just keep going higher in reps if needed. Were you planning on rescuing a big woman from the floor one day?

Yeah, I wasn't going for glory. I don't think I've ever tried to max on deadlifts. Always 3 to 5 reps.

Ehhhh......... deadlifting for high reps can be just as bad because you wear yourself out and your form can slowly break down.

There might not be a "need" to deadlift over X amount of pounds, but for many, there's a purpose. My personal goals didn't include staying at the same deadlift weight for the rest of my life. I wanted to improve upon what I'd already achieved.

Also, you can pull more on rack pulls and when I injured myself, I was only doing so around 250ish. You can hurt yourself at any weight.

nikkas got me afraid of breaking my 505lbs. PR....:lupe:

I wouldn't worry. Deadlifts can be crazy dangerous with bad form, but I imagine if you pull that much, you probably know what you're doing.

I really just think my body wasn't meant to deadlift. I've never felt mechanically right doing it, no matter how much I've studied and practiced the form.

My right side is also about a half inch shorter than the left, so my hips are off. I imagine that plays a huge role in it. Keep that in mind, plus in any given year, I deadlifted between 26 and 52 times for 10 years and this only happened 3 times. Fractures in your spinal region sounds bad, but clearly I lived through it without feeling that much like I had to go to the doctor.

It just sounds

fukked up my lower back doing heavy ass squats, never had a problem with deadlifts but then i never went to extreme with it like i did with squats. Been about a year and a half and although my backs a lil better, i still feel the pain when i sit down for too long then get up. Maybe i need to see a chiro too :to:

:manny: can't say I disagree with the advice in here. This why I've been just focusing on maintaining for the past year or so :patrice:

I've already done all the big boy lifts and have nothing to prove. One thing I will say is every time you're messing with heavy weight you're putting yourself at an increased risk for injury. I remember all the times I lifted heavy, and literally felt chronic injuries lurking around the corner. This is partially why I don't squat or deadlift over 3 plates anymore. fukk do I look like caring about some cat that makes a comment about me doing the same lifts and weight every time...

And real like 90% of the cats in the gym I see with back problems, all say it came from deadlifts :manny:

physical therapist must :eat: good off of gym rats with horrible form.

It's always interesting reading DL pain stories seeing as its one of the best lifts for back health.

You'd be surprised how little recreational lifters see therapists.
