A PSA... :to:

Been a serious lifter for got damn 10 years now. Have my personal training certification. Always study form and continuously strive for near perfect form. I can only assume some bodies aren't meant for the motion of it. 3 times in my life, pure misery. Be aware of the body's resiliency too. Can be deceitful.

Time 1 about 5 years ago... was probably repping in the high 300s. First set, no problem. Second set, my back felt like a balloon popped in the lower region. Keeled over. Almost crawled out of there, terrified of a hernia. Took about 2 months off lifting and healed just fine.

Time 2 about 2 years ago... heavy reps of deads... somewhere in the 400s. First set no injury, but was immediately sore. Felt OK enough to finish my back workout. Later that night, could barely move. Pain persisted for months, mostly when sitting at a desk job, but eventually felt OK to lift (no deads). Still, finally broke down and went to a chiro. Five adjustments and I was all good.

Time 3 about 1 year ago... rack pulls. Basically stopped the deadlifts and the weight was in the mid 200s. So easy for me, but midway through, snapped again. Even worse this time, had a toddler to constantly pick up.

The pain went away before. Perhaps it's being almost 30 now, but I've had bad back pain for a year now. Finally went to the chiro. First time with back X Rays.

FRACTURED SPINAL COLUMN.

Maybe I need to get a chiro to check me out. My back just gets stiff and I have to crack it, but I've never been to a chiro. A couple guys at my gym gave me the number to one. fukk it. What'd you do, breh? :lupe:

Thats why I stopped deadlifting too. My back isn't fractured or anything like that (I hope :lupe:), but one day I was on my second set and I felt a sharp pain in my lower back (no homo). I got shook and been using the leg press and various other exercises for my legs and back ever since.

After Squats, Deadlifts is the next beastiest king lift.......the fact that it work your legs, glutes, back, arms, forearms, shoulders, traps, and abs in one HIT itself is a testament to how functional/ beneficial this lift is! I was scared of deadlifts for a long time too....in fact, it probably took me a year of doing them (with light weights) before I realized that I was doing it wrong (using way too much of my back). However, since I’ve studied the exercise and put in some time, I’ve seen massive gains in my deadlift maximum and it’s beyond eng – I’ve added 65lbs to my deadlifts in the past 3 and a half months :myman:......Think about our ancestors: they didn’t have a weight rack to deal with, or a Smith machine to help them out – they had heavy ass FLinstone type boulders, rocks, logs, & mammoth carcasses they needed to move from one place to another. Simple enough you can either pick it up, or you’re too weak. If you’re too weak, you might not have dinner for your family (or get some cavegirl pusssy that night) that night, or you might not have a place to sleep, so you found a way to GET strong enough!!!

Sorry to hear that. What did they say in terms to healing? I have sciatic and a tender lower back and I get to certain points, the weights aggravate it and I have to change my training. It seems lower rep/heavier weight works well for me and when altered my weight drops off. I had my back act up during my 5x5 and I've lost about 10lbs since changing my workouts around.

That's what was crazy... I found out I fractured it awhile ago and it already healed. How you fracture anything in that region and don't know it, I'll never understand. He said every time I move, the spine is pressing downwards in a way that's causing pain and eventually that particular area will collapse on itself, but I can reverse course with some treatment.

Said no more movements, at least not with heavy weight of things that involve movement there... squats, good mornings, bench, etc.

The guy has won a few bodybuilding competitions, so I trust him.
