Actually his post was anything but generic. It is extremely contrarian and refreshing. Athletes and entertainers are deified to a disgusting extent.
Some of y'all nikkas sound like straight haters under some guise of righteousness. That's what young kids usually do but if they have good parenting they know the real and if not blame it on the parents don't be a hater

They are indeed. But that deification can be used for inspiration that you can be great too....at something.

Instead this teacher is against it completely bc of these kids backgrounds. Is it okay if steph curry goes and talks to rich kids in private schools?

He should just tell his students to drop out now.

Can it? I don't think so. He already addressed that point in his little rant anyway, but that's his opinion. In my opinion, deification does nothing good. All it does is build up false expectations.

And anyway, People like Steph Curry are sideshow spectacles to rich private school kids. Rich private school kids don't have the same hunger and desperation that poor kids have. Those kids either have the luxury of pursuing their retarded "dream" because mommy and daddy gave them a trust fund, or they are on the fast track to an Ivy degree fully paid from day one and thanks to private tutoring and SAT prep and having legacy in their desired schools.

Personally I would want Steph Curry to come to a school just because it's a nice way to break up the monotony. fukk going to Chemistry, I want to meet the lightskinned dime that can splash a basketball through a net from 33 feet away

It's not just kids. Everybody deifies celebrities. Hell, some of these kids parents probably do it too. There's no perfect right or wrong answer. All the guy did was make an unpopular opinion which is good. It'll stir up some discussion.

No offense but this post sounds as dumb as the teacher.

Just bc you see steph curry standing in front of you doesn't mean you're gonna believe you can be him.

That's just asinine and again goes back to stereotyping every young black kid as being dumb and as having no goals outside of sports.
YES IT DOES.

these are KIDS. they are not grown ups. They already idolize entertainers(singers, rappers, TV stars, movie stars, and PRO athletes). the moment you meet these guys/chicks in person you start to believe.

The same thing can be said of warren buffett walks in or Bill gates, etc. When you see these people in the flesh, not on TV, no on the radio. but IN front of you and they start talking. you feel like "hey he's human.. i'm human. i think i can do it."

and thats ok to think that to a degree. its called INSPIRATION.

the problem is when it comes to broke kids from broke areas(black white or red). they will always dream about winning the lottery vs being a normal productive citizen.

sure everyone dreams of being a star. but put it this way, the white kid from the burbs is thinking "well one day i'm going to be an accountant like my dad."

while the poor black kid from the hood is thinking, "i'm going to be a rapper like Jcole and/or a nba player like steph curry."

Why doesnt the little super poor black kid from the hood usually say "i'm going to be an accountant like my dad."

because his dad isnt an accountant 9 times outta 10. his dad isnt in the house half the time. and if he is, he may be doing some hard work that isnt paying off that well. "i'm going to have 2 security jobs like my dad." that kind of stuff is almost never said by poor kids.

be realistic when you read that letter. and understand the teacher is not talking about how grown ups would receive steph but actual KIDS. that are already borderline lost in the sauce of a dream they most likely can never achieve while the reality dream is not that difficult to achieve.

most kids are of average intelligence. to be a productive citizen in society all you need to be is of average intelligence. that should grant you a decent job if you study hard and work hard. i didnt say a great job. i said DECENT. thats achievable and attainable. now you can try to be curry too ON THE SIDE. but thats only...ON THE SIDE.

but kids dont think like that. they will drop their guaranteed situation for an ON THE SIDE DREAM situation.

Its not unpopular because its half agreeing and half disagreeing so it ain't that unpopular at all at least in this thread. Its stupid though but not unpopular.

There's actually a better chance of making the NBA than being black & working at Google, Oracle or Microsoft in Silican Valley

Not True.

Granted, there is a wild low number of blacks working in STEM in Silicon Valley, but you have a far greater chance at getting into those 3 companies than you do the NBA..

If you haven't made to any level of pro basketball by 25, chances are you'll never make it..... you have literally 20-25 years after HS to make it in to those companies.

Nah, his opinion is not something most people would agree with. Most people wouldn't tell Steph Curry, "I don't think you should come to our school."
I see more posters calling him a hater than anything else.

thats not what he said at all. he said dont come here because they will drop their books(Their legit way out of the ghetto) and pick up a dream that wont happen for 99.9% of them. Thats what he meant.

Steph will make them lose their minds and stop thinking about reality which is you aint tall, your dad didnt play nba so he cant tutor you and have you play vs other nba players to get better, you didnt start playing ball until you were 16. and you're still not that athletic. so no coach will take a liking to you enough to the point where someone invests serious time into getting you ready to be a pro. the odds of all those things happening is less than winning the lottery.

but the odds of these same kids studying, getting pretty good grades, going off to college/tech school, etc is a high probability.

thats all he's saying. dont come in here messing up these kids reality.
