I want to make a comment about that point specifically. I would agree that a film that tackles the power and responsibility dilemma could be ambitious, but my stance is that BvS did not do that. And they had a perfect opportunity to do so.

The most disappointing scene in the film for me wasn't Martha, or Batman murking criminals, or CG Doomsday, or any of Luthors scenes, it was the court scene. When I first saw the trailer, I thought to myself, despite all of the stupid shyt being thrown at the screen, THIS looks like it could be interesting. :jbhmm:

Superman having to address a court, speak to the American people, hell speak to the entire world, and take an actual stance on who he is and what his place is in this world.:ehh:

I was looking forward to that more than anything else in the film. What would be his response? How would he answer to "This is how democracy works. We talk to each other." I thought this could have been a great 5-7 minute scene of truth and character building and thought provoking debate. But no, the court room exploded before Superman could even say a word. So apparently democracy is talking to each other, but this movie is about avoiding that talk, and instead having shyt blow up. :martin:

So we don't get to hear him defend himself, we don't get to hear him apologize, or not apologize, or express a counterpoint to the popular narrative, or talk about growing up on a farm, or talk about his ethos, or talk about being a man vs being a God, or talk about how the love of his family or the love of his life factors into who he is, or literally.....anything. He doesn't share a single piece of himself. All we get is him brooding after the explosion. What a wasted opportunity for the film to deliver an interesting and poignant character moment for Superman and one that would explicitly tackle the theme of being a superhero and if people deserve to be saved. That moment should have been used to give Superman, a character so many say is boring and emotionless, a voice that would connect to the audience, in world and out, but instead they used that moment for a piss joke and an explosion.

This is why I say it was an on the surface look at it's themes. The potentially compelling aspects of the film was just undermined at damn near every point, and all that truly was left to like was Batman's action scenes. :yeshrug:At least for me.

This was the make it or break it scene for me. I was bored/didnt care about the film until that point. I hate almost every one until the courtroom. I legit was like "They finally giving Superman a voice :lupe:" Then Snyder said :mjlol: and blew the scene up. I gave up on BvS after that. The writers didnt even use that scene against Superman to justify why the world hated him. Immediately after the news said it wasnt his fault....:dahell: what was the point of that scene?

I dont like this portrayal of Superman but at least BvS they tried to give him character development to make up for the lack of development in MoS. Too bad this wasnt his movie.:francis: I actually wanted to see MoS 2 even though the first is one of my most hated films.

If you don't think a big budget, summer blockbuster space opera with talking trees, aliens, and rac00ns are riskier from a studio than a dark film with superman and batman, then you just don't understand the production aspect of film-making. No one is saying Guardians is the riskiest movie of all time, it did have the Marvel brand to help it succeed, but the argument is that it was far riskier than a Batman and Superman movie, no matter how dark that movie is. If you disagree with that then I really don't know what to tell you but to pay more attention to the production of films.
I think it's closer than people admit but GotG is a lil riskier even though it's an for- all- ages flick. Neither project I would call risky.

I just dont get why people think DC is supposed to be doing these huge numbers. DC will never sniff Avengers money.

Thor Dark World = $644 millon +

MOS= $668 million + (with the bigger budget)

so lets slow down on the Thor disrespect, superman aint the man no more

Compare the first Thor film with the MoS. :childplease:

Yall nikkas dont know Superman, but he being portrayed very poorly in Synder's universe.

Back at it again killin these nikkas :mjlol:

Standard blockbuster featuring the two most well known heroes in American comic history is more ambitious than a movie full of unknowns including a talking tree and foul mouthed racc00n :mjlol: yeah they really stepped out on a limb with BVS :dead: clap for em
Man yall some DC haters :scust:

How was GOTG not a risk. You have a proven and successful forumula and your next move is a big budget move starring a tree and racc00n with a gun, both which talk.

For people that love to trash marvel as being "formulaic", deciding to scrape the bottom of the barrel for characters even more obscure than the ones you already have control over is a giant business risk. And let's not even get on Antman. The name alone was a risk because what casual viewer is marking the calendar to see a movie called Ant Man :mjlol:

That's why the projections were all over the place and no one had them doing nearly as well as they did. Those are risks. Putting batman and superman in the same movie, adding in Wonder Woman and lex, and finally choosing to move it up to avoid your competition is as risk averse as you can get come on :mjlol:
DC films are not intended for the kids breh. GotG (which was trash IMO) was intended for a larger audience.

It's pg13 and starring comic heroes. Despite the "dark", "grim", "brooding" nature you all are championing, the suits at DC want everyone to be able to see it. They don't have a higher sense of artistry, at the end of the day they are trying to make money too. The movie is for everyone, it's just "darker" and not as well done.

If it wasn't intended for everyone it would be rated R and 3 hours, but like most businesses, DC is not trying to leave any money on the table.

:umad: exposed yourself! Those hands are atleast 30 years old!!! It's for adults only!

:mjlol:

:childplease: You just exposed yourself with this post. :camby:
that used to be one of their favorite fall backs, before BVS came out. That people that enjoyed marvel films were intellectually lacking. Seems as though old habits die hard.

Why doesn't anyone know Clark Kent is Superman.

Explain to me how this is possible in an adult film.

For a film trying to drown it's self in realism seriousness, that and Lex Luthor displaying more buffoonery than even 90s Jim Carey as the Riddler would be able to tolerate, contribute to the mess of a movie it turned out to be (editing and pacing aside).

Henry Cavill took a stroll in downtown Manhatten with a freakin Superman t-shirt on and no one knew who he was.

And Metropolis is BIGGER then NYC. 20 million people, and I bet you, you could find 1 milllion 30 + year old, blue-eyed, in-shaped white guys in the city.

As for this DC shyt. All I care is Batman and Batman-related characters. Harley, Joker, the Robins, etc. DC should really just focus on that.

They should delay other projects after releasing WW and just focus on a world around Batfleck imo.

:camby: There are way too many interesting characters and concepts in the DC universe for that. fukk a Batfleck.

There werent a lot of kids in the threaters to see BvS compared to CA3 and the rest of the Marvel trash. The execs at Disney PURPOSELY marketed the Marvel films for the family. DC, not so much.
