I don't think that's an argument you can win breh but I'd love to see your argument for batman

as i get older i think prefer things to be simpler, like they were when i was a kid. now don't get me wrong i enjoy complex movies, but when it comes to superheroes and whimsical shyt like this i prefer there to be a certain level of... oh how do i say this... FUN?????

it is the same reason i was able to go see the ninja turtles this summer and keep a smile on my face almost the whole way through. i went into that movie, literally, like a 5 year old would. because if i went into the theater as a 29 year old, it would have been to see a different movie.

batman 89 just feels more like batman to me. no it isn't as complex, or as mature, or as nuanced... but it is more enjoyable. pure and simple.

So you're not arguing why it's better you're arguing why you like it more. I can't argue against your preference breh

how could you argue in favor of one movie over another and not bring personal preference into it.

There's a way to be subjective about it. Example: 12 years a slave is a great movie from all aspects but it's not something I'm ever going to watch more than once nor is it my preference but I can acknowledge its greatness. Same way I feel about 2001.

well you either view a movie as art, as entertainment, or as both.

perhaps dark knight truimphs over batman 89 as art. it has more depth. it has more layers. it is more ambitious.

but as entertainment, i give the edge to the burton movies.

As entertainment I give the edge to dark knight. The more thoughtful piece on terrorism and the nature of terrorism and how far we're willing to go to protect ourselves and defeat the enemy along with the awesome crime story and mob story make it a better film for me. Plus if I'm talking batman, dark knight is more in line with the character than burton's batman which again doesn't bug me enough to dislike it but it is a knock on it nonetheless

Naw, that's true though

Before Batman 89, when people thought batman they thought the Adam West Batman

This isn't true at all. Batman's "rebirth" to mainstream media and pop culture is all from The Dark Knight Returns that came out 3 years prior to Batman 89

right, but it is also long. real long. and it FEELS real long.

and yes it was certainly more faithful to certain key aspects of the character than 89 was, but in other ways it was not. for one it didn't nail down the visual aesthetic nearly as well. visually speaking burton's was way more faithful. and seeing as how these are all incredibly visual characters born out of a visual medium, you can't really brush that to the side. just LOOKING at burton's movie evokes more feelings of batman. one movie sees faint images of a bat signal amidst a cloudy sky, barely even resembling it. another movie has batman standing atop a towering cathedral gazing up at the bat symbol in all of it's glory as it lights up the clear night sky.

christian bale drove a tumbler. michael keaton drove the batmobile. bale operated out of a basement, keaton operated out of the batcave. bale beat up crooked accountants and swat guys, keaton beat up crooks and henchmen.

plus keaton's batman just kicked more ASS.
