people will often credit TDK as the movie that brought batman back from the darkness. the movie that reminded the world how great batman is and rejuvenated the character's popularity in modern day culture. and they would be right. however they forget one thing.
another movie did it first.
look at that poster for just a second. look at that logo. lie to me and tell me that isn't the most iconic batman symbol of all time.
tell me what music you hear when someone refers to "the batman theme".
tell me it didn't partly inspire both the approach and feeling of batman the animated series. shyt there wouldn't have BEEN a batman animated series if it weren't for the success of this movie.
don't get me wrong, when someone says joker... you think of the dark knight. sorry jack, it's true. as legendary as you were - and continue to be to this day - heath's has become most iconic portrayal of the character on film. that i will not deny.
so the dark knight has the more iconic joker, while batman 89 has the more iconic
- suit
- logo
- theme
- BATMAN
when you show these movies to your kids, which one do you think they're gonna take to more? the one that caters to adults or the one that caters to kids? are they gonna wanna watch the christopher nolan version of a batman movie or are they gonna wanna watch the one that most reminds them of a cartoon? how would YOU feel as a 4 year old watching the dark knight?
25 years later and batman 89 is still a classic. did the dark knight change the discussion? absolutely. i think that when someone asks if you ever watched "the batman movie", you might not be too sure which one they're referring to now.
but i hope this thread serves as a reminder that when someone does ask you that question, you should think batman 89.
