Yea that movie brought it back to life...it was like a sleeping giant for 30 years...I think everyone knew who batman was...but no one thought of it much outside of the old comic book series or the 60s TV show...all the merchandise from that movie generated its popularity well past the 90s and up until the relaunch in 2005.Breh as a 3 year old I knew it was huge. All the batman toys in my basement prove that. Along with the video games, the t shirts I had, the damn batman cereal my mom bought me and I said was nasty but she made me eat it anyway because that's how it is.
I use to collect mostly Marvel comics back then....but Batman brought DC comics back....there was a huge surge in new Batman titles between 1989 and 1993...plus I'll say this....that movie is what brought comic book characters to the big screen IMO...Superman was big but it faded from what I can recall...after the success of Batman...Marvel tried to get in on the game...and started talks of a Spiderman and X Men movies around the early 90s (I remember this well...because I was a BIG comic book fan /collector at the time)...I remember that it was scheduled to come out in 1992...then the idea was to get it out by 1996....but they finally made it to the screen in 2000 and 2002'...plus with the success of that and other Marvel movies that followed...DC began to build on their brand to compete with the success of Marvel.
But IMO...it all started with that Batman movie...no exaggeration.
