Cade went to college so there is more tape. Jalen went to the g league which nobody watches.

Cade is taller

:manny:

But like LaMelo, Jalen has more experience against pro completion so his transition to the NBA should be smoother.
Honest question, are you saying the abundance of tape made him a safer pick for the Pistons? Cause the layman fan doesn’t watch the G league but the scouts and FO people definitely do. They also had access to the g league practices and coaching staffs

Tape is tape. Scouts and GM's go see these players IN PERSON. They get film we've never seen. They get private workouts.

Luka Doncic had 3 years' worth of film since he turned pro at 16. This isn't about tape.
I didn’t see this comment before I posted. Had the same thought. I’m not sure where tape comes into play between the 2 of them

I kinda feel that it's similar to the LeBron and KD argument.

One guy is a jack of all trades, and the other is "just" a hyper-elite scorer. I'm kinda starting to feel that Cade will be the better ballplayer.

It’s always something like this. But cade was basically the consensus number 1 pick. They made the right decision at the time. I wouldn’t be surprised if a player drafted outside of the top 5 ends up being the best long term. Cade was the safest pick up With the highest upside and the most current production with the size and athletic measurement he was the best overall package..

yeah, but nationally televised college games ain’t the same as the g league. There’s the assumed more pressure do to the high profile of college basketball.

And had there been enough tape on Luca, he would’ve been picked higher.

It all boils down to projection anyway. And it’s not like Jalen went 10th. He was the 2nd pick. I don’t think you could go wrong with either pick to be honest.

You could also say that the G league is full of grown men and has more talent.

Goalposts change depending on who you talk to. :yeshrug:

I think it’s similar. It’s about what you value in the game. I personally think the NBA overvalues players with dominant lead ball skills. They make it seem like every star must initiate offense every time down the court and I completely disagree with that fundamentally. I don’t think that is good basketball.

I feel like they overloook the value of players with elite off ball skills. Initiating offense is important but I dont like players who dont add anything when the ball isn’t in their hands. Thats why I love players like Steph and KD. They can play with anyone in any style cause they really don’t need the ball consistently to effect the game. One of the things I like about Cade is he’s actually good off the ball but the fans and the media keep screaming about how he needs to have the ball at all times in the summer league.

That’s also what I love about Jalen’s game. He played almost primarily off ball in the G league. And after his rocky start to the second summer league game, he went off the ball and played an extremely efficient game within the flow off the offense.

I do believe the skills to initiate offense and “run the show” is an important thing for a superstar player to have as a tool, but I don’t think a player dropping a triple double every night is a good sign for team success. Team passing>>>>

He shouldn’t have been the consensus number 1 tho. Not saying he shouldn’t have gone #1 but there should’ve been a real discussion between Cade, Evan, and Jalen. Cade has the highest floor but even the Pistons would tell you he has the lowest ceiling of the 3

Cleveland born & raised
He looks weak as fukk.

We'll see how he turns out in the regular season though.
That don’t make him a bust lol
Elite passing for a big, decent dribble & a impactful defender. He’s not like Green or Cade who can just put up points. He needs guard play
