Yeah they’ve been frenemies for a while now didnt Hank try to kill Barry in the past few seasons?

I remember Hank and a couple of Chechens try to kill Barry in the pilot. They’re in the car after killing the actor Barry that was supposed to kill. The shooter pulls a gun on Barry, so Barry shoots up the car and kills two of them. The Chechens also kidnap Barry & Fuches and begin to torture Fuches until Barry agrees to do a hit.

Also in the second season when they try to snipe Barry when he’s with Sally, then Barry goes over and agrees to train them.

I will say,

Barry is one of the most broken and disturbing people on TV ever. It's actually got to be difficult for Bill Hader to get out of the headspace of that character...he's a scary motherfukker...the exact person I don't fukk with when you feel it in the air...

Incredible performance and writing by him
What I find most intriguing about this show is that it was all about Barry wanting to find a new life for himself...but didn't wanna own up for anything in his old life. And in trying to cover up and distance himself from his past he actually becomes WORSE because at his core he's a fukking psychopath and don't want that accountability. You can't quit that kinda life cold turkey

Yeah but at that point he was still just posing to carry out a hit IIRC.
Nah, this part wasn't an act.

This was after he kicked it with the acting class at a bar and got cool with the target, Fuches hits him with the  and Barry agrees to kill the guy. He drives back to the school and this scene occurs.

He didn't need to seek out Gene. He loved the feeling he got in the first class and found a new passion.
