That initial cut to Justin Long’s character upon the reveal of the monster was a ballsy move by the director. The tone gets flipped on its head in a love it or hate it way and all of a sudden you’re watching the film through another character’s perspective. I can see a lot of people being frustrated at that particular sequence.

That being said, I still fukking love it on rewatch. My main issue with this film was the last half hour regressing to a monster flick that’s been played out before. The positives outweigh the negatives for me though. Thought it did a good job interweaving its themes within the story and man, I wish I had a solid surround system to capitalize on the fantastic sound design.

Barbarian is firmly in my top 3 horror releases of the year. :banderas:

Kept thinking that one guy was Jackie Earle Haley/Rorschach in the cut until I found out it wasn’t. :heh:

I enjoyed this film a lot. If I have to compare it to anything else I'd still go with TCM. Once the movie gets going it stops but picks up again and goes places you didn't think it would.

I forget who talked about horror in Detroit but It Follows was in Detroit too. I liked this more than It Follows but I don't like that movie.

-Having Bill Skarsgård as Keith is the best stunt casting in recent memory. They knew thier audience watched IT and knew he was Pennywise.
-I don't know how 3 people saw a rape dungeon and thought oh hey let's look for more.
-Did Mama say, "Mama" at the end because Tess looked like her mom? I'm guessing its the woman Frank was Stalking.
-I feel like Tess said Nope! Because of the Jordan Peele film but idk.

Some questions I got for people that watched this.

When did you guys believe Keith was telling the truth?

When did you guys think Justin Long was lying?

When did you think Frank was lying?

Which characters made you say, "No, don't do that."?

Mother killed the black guy immediately. Even though she never met a black person before. Do you think she did this because she thought he was more of a threat than the white guys?

1. When Mother showed up and killed him.
2. When he was in the bar with his friend.
3. When he watched the girl in the parking lot
4. Tess only.
5. Yes.

Finished it last night. My main issue is that this brawd did NOT want to leave that house. AirBnB double booked? Im pretty sure theres at least one hotel motel in a major city with an opening, even if not Id be sleeping in my damn car instead. Found a rope to a hidden door? Nah im out after that. Found a room with a dirty mattress, bloody hand prints on the walls, and a camera? Bet take pictures and go to the police department? Another hidden door? Nope again but she still decides to go down there. Finally breaks out after surviving off of retard titty milk? Lets just go back in the house i guess sine i think this rando need help.... like how the fukk she was gonna help him if she couldnt even help herself? :mjlol:

She deserved every single thing that happened to her. A normal person would have got ghost that first night

I knew Keith wasn’t lying when his screams to Tess from down below mirrored the exact same ones while asleep in the midst of a night terror. That’s true distress. I could see that signaling to her that he really was in danger, with no games being played.

First 40 minutes are a master class in horror and suspense, then does a complete 180 once the “monster” is revealed at the end of act 1. A subversive turn, but I fukked with it regardless because of how it was done. Also dug the scenes where we went back in time to see how he house/neighborhood was before it went to shyt

I didn’t like when
Tess first escaped and went back for AJ. That made me so angry, because that wasn’t her personality at all previously, she was scared as hell, but all of a sudden wants to be the hero. She should’ve just got in the car and took off.

Justin Long did amazing in this, as well as Skarsgard. He just looks like he’s up to no good, so to play on that was genius, and set up a very tense act 1. Georgina Campbell is so fine :ohlawd: She played her role so well and it was believable until the parts of the spoiler that I brought up above

The Whitest Kid U Know just made the Horror film of the year :wow:
