Going off the off reports and the random timing of the Russell trade, I'm guessing the calls went something like this:
Magic: we'll trade you the 28th and Clarkson for Paul George
Pacers: you going to have to do better than that b
Magic: that's cool breh we'll just sign him in free agency

With PG telling teams that he would only play in LA, we knew that they weren't likely to get a better offer for a rental but we didn't consider one thing... there's another team in LA. Then this came out . Hearing this I think Magic panicked and started calling teams to see what kind assets they could get for D'Lo in order to sweeten the deal. Magic first probably called the Mavericks like:
Magic: We'll give you D'Lo for the 9th pick
Cuban: I'm not helping you sign George. Try calling the Nets I hear theyre desperate

So Magic immediately calls the Nets:
Magic: we're looking to trade Russell what you offering
Nets: we'll give you the 27th pick
Magic: cmon breh you can do better than that
Nets: 27th and we'll let you dump Mozgovs contract
Magic: throw in Caris Levert and you have a deal
Nets: Levert off the table. either take the 27th and Brook Lopez or take nothing
Magic: we'll take em

Then Magic calls the Pacers back like:
Magic: ight 27, 28 and Clarkson
Pacers: *click*
Magic:

And in desperation Magic calls the Kings:
Magic: we'll give you the 2nd pick for the 5th and 10th
Kings: we'll pass


That brings us here, now I think we are in a situation where we have to outbid the Clippers for PG or we've just lost D'Lo for nothing. After the leaks of Lonzo being out of shape in the workouts and now this trade offer to the Kings: it's clear we aren't sold on Lonzo and we'll likely end up trading the pick for PG or drafting Josh Jackson. Either way we're probably going into next season with Clarkson as our starting point guard

There is a lot of leaks and smoke around him as well. Conditioning and effort in workouts, getting outplayed by Fox in the tourney, off-court distractions, etc.

We sure have heard a lot of raving feedback about Fultz, Jackson, Smith and Fox workouts. Nothing positive about Lonzo's....

I don't mind the fact that we traded him, it's what we got for him.. it just reeks off panic. George already said he's coming so why gut the team now. If we attached that 28th pick to Mozzy I'm sure we could've found a taker.

Not sure people are going after Magic as if the general manager isn't Rob Pelinka. I'd think Pelinka is the one working the trades for draft picks and not Magic. With that said, I think it's way too early to just jump up and down as if you KNOW this is a bad trade. Just from what we read, no team was taking Russell for their lottery pick. His value was that low around the league. If that's the case, unless they waited around to see if his stock could rise, this could have been the best they could get for Russ.

I'm just pissed that year of tanking we did to get Russell amounts to nothing. It's like a year of my life wasted watching that bullshyt season. Magic and Pelinka look like new Wallstreet newbies who want to sell their young assets as quickly as possible without letting it develop and possibly getting more value down the line. Just reeks of a lack of patience and vision. I'm not confident in the Lakers future with rumors talking about trying to form a superteam with a 34 year old Lebron. Makes me sick tbh.

If D'Lo breaks out next year, his value increases..thus you get a better return

You could tell something was off with dlo behind the scenes. Scott didn't like him then luke didn't like then magic and oelinka didn't like him. Obviously there was something going on. Now draft lonzo get PG and fukk bron don't want him here

i always suspected that dlo had a drinking problem. all last season during Sunday games his game was off.
