who do you think were the most powerful and corrupt popes of all time?

Well they are all corrupt in my opinion :mjlol:

Most corrupt probably the borgia popes and Pius XII for his connection with hitler and the Nazis. Most powerful is hard to say , since its the office of the papacy that has the power not the man himself per say, i guess Innocent III or Ironically Pope John Paul 2 ( ironically because he was pope during a time where the papacy wasnt viewed by most as a powerful as time past) he was definitely one of the most influential and to a certain point the one that helped change how the church was viewed around the world by other leaders, specially religious ones.

He's one of the reasons why we have the Ecumenical movement among all the religions of the world today

Also kings and emperors conquered land for the church the conquered people would “adopt” their religion and the religion would indoctrinate their pagan customs

also i don’t thing popes has to look over their shoulder as much ...kings and emperors were being murked by their own people in lots of cases

Pope easily

he who controls the religion controls the masses

kings and emperors went to their religious leaders for blessings to do things and consult with them ...unless you’re Coligula you listened ...
horus had more control than any pope in the history of mankind..

and horus didnt speak...

dont let it be an eclipse...

tombout centuries....

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but couldn't a king just refuse what the pope wanted and use his army to overthrow the pope?
ain’t no such thing as a stupid question, Young David:therethere:

the pope could be refused, but that monarch would fall out of favor. like a breh above said, the pope was considered a step below god and had his own personal army ( The Knights Templar). Some kong’s didn’t do what the pope wanted, such as Henry VIII who separated from the Catholic church after the pope wouldn’t grant him his divorce. Henry set up his own Church of England which caused 100s of years of conflict for his descendants.
