nah im not, there is no real crisis, and if people want to avoid getting into heavy debt they should go to state schools

God damn, you're ignorant.

Over a trillion in debt. Average debt rising exponentially. More delinquent accounts. Less jobs and less jobs that pay well.

fukk outta here.

:camby:

State schools are cool though. I went to Ohio State. Tuition for two semesters is now at 10k per year for Ohio residents. Another 10k for room and board. Plus all the other expenses. Add 15k a year if you're out of state. Four years if you're lucky. Seems real affordable.

:bryan:

You remind me of the real estate agent who told me in 2007 that I needed to make a quick decision on a property because the market was hot and only getting hotter.

What the fukk does your wife do?

IT recruiter. She's good looking and sociable, which means money.

:obama:

Top sales people in her small company make upwards of 400k.

Going to a community college first was the best decision I ever made. Transferring to UofL my loans doubled after one semester

that graph doesnt mean there is a crisis, the student loan market is very different that the regular credit market 1) most student loans are handled by the government which means payment terms are very lenient 2) a lot of the defaults come from the explosion of trade schools, which is a bad thing but its not a crisis 3) there was a recession

here is more reading if anybody is interested, but basically those who say there is a "student debt crisis" are like you, they just look at some graph or read some article by an ignorant reporter

Students Suffer a Repayment Crisis, Not a Debt Crisis

the bottom line is that people should be careful what school they choose and how they finance, that's about it, but there isnt any real crisis

There are really no questions on my end. I am just making sure you realize how stupid your comment was.

Student loan debt is a HUGE problem and your simple ass solution as "state school" just doesn't cut it. You've already admitted you are wrong in saying it's very expensive.

i posted the links above

student debt is a problem, people need to be careful, but its not a huge problem and its not a crisis

My wife makes 100k with just a high school education in year two on the job, while I have 4 degrees and it would be almost impossible for me to find a career where I made that much in my second year with my education.

:banderas:

Oh, sorry, I forgot... only Bill Gates dropped out of college with success.

:whoa:

lol why is this dude telling me about his wife and her "100k salary" like I was trying to refute the premise of this thread :heh:
and yes i'm sure she's making "100k" with the education of an 18 year old and 2 years work experience :camby:

then comparing her to bill gates. :childplease:

So you're telling me I don't need to spend 2 years finding myself by partying nonstop and taking general education courses that do almost nothing for me, plus 2 years of very surface level information and unpaid internships that are forms of slavery, rarely translating into meaningful employment?

:troll:

Old people went to college and were often the first in their family to do so. It was more selective. It meant something. The degree has been devalued and is way too expensive today. As the old people responsible for hiring die off, hopefully college as it stands today, will also die.

Either this or if they are requiring degrees hopefully what Michigan and Tennessee do become more common place.

this stat is pretty misleading. The type of people that have the drive to do well in high school and then go on to finish college probably would do just fine had they not gotten a degree in the first place.

If you're looking for some kind of study or article I have in. But im in college about to graduate and I've observed the people around me and the internships and work they do. I haven't observed much in their formal education that actually enhances the work they do.

all a college degree says is that you have some kind of discipline and are trainable, that is why an employer will on average pay the college graduate more, there is no chance in hell that will ever change

I somewhat agree with you on that. But if that's the case why go through 4 years and a ton of debt just for this conclusion?

because college is not a job training institution, college is a an academic institution where people are suppose to develop themselves and network

if people and employers use it as a job training or selection tool, you have to talk to employers or maybe to talk to yourself about what you are doing, the college's job is simply to develop an educated population and that isnt cheap

my main point is that the college graduate will always make more money on average

This is the kind of stuff only Americans seem to buy into, while the rest of the world is fighting to get them degrees. Why are we so damn soft and looking for shortcuts?
