I mean the main character died so there's that. It qualifies as something going wrong.
he could have been recasted.

Marketing wasn't that good. A lot of the commercials didn't even show the main characters...BP did $1.3B for reference. So for the sequel BP2 to do $500M less.. something went wrong.
it was better on a second watch. i am viewing this as something of a reboot. way of water leaves a lot of questions unanswered but if they didn't what would they fill all these projected sequels with.
cameron has in one film made strong characters out of the children which has to be applauded and sets it up nicely for their individual arcs.
IMO cinema needs directors with vision and for that alone cameron deserves our patience while his story unfolds.
sequels need more earth, more politics, more nuance and factions among the humans, more advanced tech, more history of pandora (before humans, first contact, eywa's history), more human history like failed attempts to colonise/control other planets.
7/10 for me. promising start.
Film's ok. Visuals are great, but the entire story could fit in a 2 hour movie.
I hope the third isn't just the same story in the desert or in outer space lmao

This series is literally about a white man who goes native to get laid, then falls in love and decides to become a native himself and ends up becoming the GREATEST native warrior and leader of the natives, leading them to victory. He out-natives the natives. Its colonizer propaganda.
Are you comparing total sales for the first movie to the sales from a month? Wakanda Forever has only been out for a little over a month, maybe two at the most. Can't move goalposts like that to make a point. 500 million less means nothing at this particular moment in time if you're doing an honest comparison to BP1's total profits because that took more than a month to achieve.
"Wakanda Forever” is only the third movie this year to cross the $400 million mark domestically. It's also the first movie since 2018's “Black Panther” to hold the top spot on box office charts for five consecutive weekends. It's doing really well.Lol.. bro.. it's 47 days. At most it has another $40-50M left.. Overseas has dried up. Why do people hate the messenger? Don't believe me then go research yourself
I'd rather have shuri be black panther , then them coming at us with a value brand chadwick boseman.he could have been recasted.

Again, I'm not understanding why you are focusing on using this movie to prop up Avatar when Avatar also outpaced other top grossing films like Maverick. It's just weird how people like to pit the one and only mostly Black led film when discussing box office success of movies like this

Cameron basically doubled downed on the mighty white/white savior trope going forward in the avatar franchise by having a white woman give birth to the only Navi (Kiri) " special" enough to connect with Eywa ( the All-Mother or Great Mother, is the biological sentient guiding force of life and deity of Pandora )
and gain full control over Pandora's environment and creatures like really synthetic Navi are better Navi then true/natural Navi
