Halfway through and some of the dialogue is just so heavy handed to get certain points across. It really is just an okay adaption but at this point, my expectations aren't as high as they used to be.

I do like the Iroh and Zuko pairing, it was always one of my favourite things about the show. Maybe I'm misremembering but did Iroh and Ozai ever interreact in the OG cartoon?
No I like that the show touched on that tho

I think the bolded is why I think we the audience share as much blame as the companies pumping out this shyt

Not saying everything has to be a masterpiece but everybody has fallen so deep into "its watchable and okay" that we've enabled the trash and heartless shyt

"It's watchable" is perfect for Netflix because they don't care if you love or hate anything they only care that you "watch". So if you get bored and end up on your phone for 60% of an episode or go finish chores while the show plays in the background their quota is filled as long as the show keeps playing:manny:

So they make product with enough excitable moments to make you look up from your phone when the music changes or someone raises their voice :francis:

Hate to be in this thread negatively but everyone upset with the show deserves what they get for even watching it in the first place:manny:
I agree, but if you're interested you won't know if it's something you like unless you watch it. Personally, I only watch things I'm interested in based on the premise. I don't even curiosity watch because of public reaction. And if I don't even enjoy it while watching, I won't continue.

But still, this isn't a bad adaptation. It's not a bad show. Is it needed, nope. I said that when the news was announced. Fans of the cartoon can enjoy it. The only thing is it just lacks charm.

This shyt is…not good

Its not completely asscheeks like the Cowboy Bebop adaptation, but somehow they got LESS of the heart and personality of the main characters in 8 full episodes than the Yu Yu Hakusho adaptation managed in just 5 episodes.

Its like the showrunners watched the cartoon and said “ok everything quirky and interesting about the main characters in season 1…toss it”. Katara has no personality, Sokka has no personality, Aang has two emotions, crying and forcing himself to look happy. The changes made to the main plot besides showing the decimation of the Air Benders made little to no sense. Zuko was probably the best thing about this adaptation, him and Iroh. Everyone else just felt devoid of any real soul.

I saw that the ratings were pretty good so they’ll more than likely get a second go round, they need to fire the showrunner and start fresh with someone who isn’t afraid to lean into what made the animated series so much fun and ultimately grand and epic, it was the RELATIONSHIP between the three main characters (plus Zuko) and how they were allowed to be flawed, to be wrong, to be HUMAN, and to ultimately learn and grow from those experiences. There’s a REASON why Sokka was sexist at the beginning of the series and evolved from it later. There’s a REASON why Katara insisted on being the motherly stick in the mud and evolved from it later. There’s a REASON why Aang was unsure of his abilities and wary of his destiny. These are children of WAR, who suffered devastating traumas that they work through together. The adaptation is devoid of that sense of grief and pain. It doesn’t show these people growing as partners and friends and ultimately family. It aims to be a greatest hits version of the animated series without any of the hits.

Is this worth watching if you didn’t watch the cartoon and don’t plan on it?

Just finished the series and I loved it. Sokka and Aang's actors were spot-on. The pacing was great and nothing felt rushed. I also liked the changes they made.

I know it's sacrilegious to many people to say this, but I think this series is just as good as the cartoon.

It's performing better than One Piece as far as views so I'll be shocked if they don't do a season 2

I thought it was bad.. twitter shytting on it hard

I liked it. I’ll give it 8/10. Acting/dialogue does need to be better but I think that can be fixed. They did well with the source material imo and gave it an edgier tone which I was fine with. Can’t respect opinion of worse thing somebody has ever seen. This is not worse than M. Night. Not by a long shot.

Definitely should have had more of the side quest that expanded upon team avatar’s relationship but I’m enjoying the show for what it is. Cant wait for Goddess Toph and the actor better nail her.

If you think you're lonely now, ohhh girl...
I can see why the original creators left this project. There are some changes I liked, such as the added background before the Air Temple was destroyed, but there are some decisions that are almost unforgivable.

Not having a Roku tell Aang about Sozen’s comet, and the “you await a grave danger. I can help you face it,” shyt is absurd :wow:. That’s such a pivotal part of the entire story, and it’s also one of the coolest parts of the entire series. I can’t believe they excluded that.

Katara being a Mary Sue/master water bender outta nowhere.

Aang never water bending.

Iroh doing in Zhou.

The kids for the most part being struggle actors. The girl playing Katara is a pretty bad actress.

I can go on and on. This shyt 1000% has some real problems.

6.5/10

You known what? The more I watch this the more I appreciate it. You just have to except that this isn't a cartoon so it's not gonna not have that slapstick comedy. They really wanted to emphasized that this really WAR. So the changes to Bumi makes sense. He spent 100 years at war and trying to run a kingdom. That has to change you. I love the change that Aang teaches him hope and believing in your friends

I think with Katara they wanted to combine her journey becoming a master and tying it to her past trauma. So we get mostly grieving Katara. I think after fully realizing her capabilities we are gonna get the Katara we expected. Because let's be honest the better material was in Book 2. So we will get better dialgoue and acting. They have so much to work with. Probably do 10-12 episodes instead of 8

I really hope we get a season 2. And if they do they should probably just shoot season 2 and 3 back to back. Or we're gonna end up with Young Adult vs Ozai and that doesn't hit the same. I'm willing to accept young teenager Aang
