He's right and it's not really player empowerment, it's star player empowerment. Role players and rotation guys are still getting thrown into deals as filler and just happy to get whatever contracts they get.
The last 10-15 yrs fans really started living vicariously through some of these athletes and defending goofy shyt as long as it meant sticking it to the owners/org. We got to acknowledge it's needs to be a balance between players having no rights and players having all the leverage and creating scenarios that decrease the quality of the league.

Bench players talking like starters I hate it. Real convenient that he chose two players who just happened to request a trade after playing for his pops. Even if this is what you truly believe not a good look speaking out as a current player
Didn’t notice that, good catch

Still think the point is fair, watch discussion about Harden after his career is over; these last 3 years are gonna look shameful

He's right, some mid level guys are now getting underpaid because of these crazy contracts thrown at top tier talent. And even worse when a non star jerami grant gets crazy overpaid lol

He wasn't overpaid. He got the standard raise for his role.

Good point! When I first watched the clip, I was questioning why he cared what a star player did. Guys like him could have to move their families because a star player is unhappy. Can't remember any deals that Austin got thrown in, but Seth Curry got thrown in that Ben Simmons deal.

Stop blaming the workers for shyt the bosses wanted. Dan Gilbert and co made these goofy ass super max deals, trade restrictions, and tax rates because they was pissed that Lebron went to Miami. He was a free agent when he did that shyt btw so miss me with that doing things the right was bullshyt. It's not like the contract changes when they get traded. That same 4/5 year deal carries over. The owners were stupid for thinking they could pay guys a crazy contract and that would keep them from leaving.

then the nba owners should negotiate better during the next collective bargaining talks

The owners dont tow the line properly at all, if they really felt a certain way about players jumping out of contracts they would collectively freeze out /ignore players making mid contract trade requests.

Players get traded everyday, b.

But I get that it hurts to be salary filler in a deal. If you weren't maneuvering to leave that city.

This isn't true at all. A superstar getting paid wouldn't affect a mid tier player's contract. The only players that are at risk are Free Agent low level players who can't get signed before the money dries up. In the rare case it happens it's almost always a guy that was a 2nd round pick and the team has no Bird rights for them.
