Atlanta is known as a ‘Black Mecca.’ Jobs data tell a different story.

What is being argued in here? Blacks dont make that much money here and Atlanta isnt a black mecca?

Atlanta isnt the black mecca because of how much money we make down here. Its the black mecca cause the city and suburbs are majority black. There are probably only 2 white families in my subdivision. Every store I go to I see majority black folk. Fulton County Schools, Atlanta Public Schools, Clayton County Schools, and DeKalb County schools are majority black. Your kids will grow up around their own down here. Every school ive worked in, ive had an all black administration. This current school I work at, I think we have like 80 something faculty and staff including teachers, cafeteria workers, nurses, janitors, etc, and we only have 2 white people who work here. There may be 2-4 white kids total in the school.

You cant just move down here and expect money to fall out the sky. You still have to work for it. If you move here with no degree, then prepare to work in a call center or a warehouse that are filled with black folk.

We dont have high paying jobs like that, but its enough jobs here for everyone to live.

If you dont think Atlanta is a safe haven for blacks, ask the cacs around the south what they think of Atlanta. They hate it with a PASSION. Nashville is to white people, what Atlanta is for us, and thats why so many cacs act like Nashville is a utopia.

This is a silly thread.

Atlanta, New Orleans, Memphis, Jackson, B-Ham, Montgomery, DC, Detroit should all be considered black meccas

What is a black Mecca to you? A city with a super high black population? That’s it?

A lot of the cities you posted have been trashed by natives on these coli boards because of the lack of investment and super high murder rates of black folks.

Wether you want to admit it or not a lot of black folks avoid these places for those simple facts so it’s hard to just call any black city a Mecca if black people are avoiding them.

It seems the guy with the masters in Finance wasn’t telling the whole story.

-He didn’t attend the University Of Georgia Business school (They Don’t have a Masters in Finance program)

- Based on his LinkedIn
https://www.linkedin.com/in/williamsto/

He has a masters in Housing Economics. While he should still be employed his masters degree is very narrowed focus. His undergrad degree was in Human Resources.

He would be a sigma. :lolbron:

I kid, I kid.

Nah, but forreal, he’s all over the place. A recruiter would look at his resume and be like “what do you want”?

Your shyt got to be tight when you’re in a competitive market. And based off his profile, his decision making abilities are questionable and shows he has no direction.

Yep, I noticed that too. Too many black folk running to the next hot city, and have nothing prepared, but always happy with the social scene without money.

Black people to me are very trendy which I don’t like because it’s causes a crab effect on us.

I personally believe in being open to all corners of America and then when you get your experience you then go to the city of your choosing.

The issue is, all corners of America ain't open to us. It's why many do feel it's the Black Mecca

I think folks with STEM or other useful degrees should also be open to going out and getting an opportunity maybe up north or out west. I get why folks want to come down here but there is so many opportunities to look at, then be pent up at one spot. I know folks who go to their office 2/5 times of week from home, some out here never at home, and always are travelling.

For me having a job is having a job. I think you get more clout and power with experience.

If I got me a job offer in Portland, Oregon. I would take it and work there for 2-3 years and make plans to move to Raleigh, Atlanta, Charlotte etc. afterwards.

I get that Portland is not black friendly (which I question) but it’s a much wiser system.

Why struggle in a black Mecca city when you can live in another place for the start of your career and then move to black Mecca when you’re experienced where you would actually be adding to the black Mecca status?

You aren’t helping black Mecca stay black Mecca by being unemployed and working at McDonald’s with a finance degree.

Yea man everytime we talk she talks about her friends that are in Austin, Texas, Oregon and other places landing jobs. She's from Jerz. I know she wants to stay near home but it might be that time.
She sounds like a clown who’s picky with no leverage. Get the much needed experience, perform and the recruiters will come swarming to you. With experience Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Netflix, etc will constantly blow up her e-mail and linkedin inbox. After 2 or 3 years in the Bay or NYC she can eventually find a position in the Jersey.

She also needs to be leetcodin’ at least 5 times a week
