I was just talking to a young lady that I work with. In had totally forgot about her then I thought about this thread. Homegirl named tiffany that graduated from Tuskegee with a degree in computer science. Been looking to apply her degree for 2 years or more. Bunch of interviews but no call backs.

I guess that's my next question how does the job market fare for HBCU grads

She must be doing something wrong if she can’t get a job after two years. Even though isn’t a tech city like Raleigh, Seattle or SF, she can get a job in Tech Square, somewhere in the Battery in Cobb County or something in Gwinnett. My cousin has an associates in IT & he’s eating real good.

He’s been working tech jobs from Kennesaw to Atlanta and companies in Gwinnett.

The job market for HBCUS grads is one of the best in the nation. Networking is everything...brehs from Morehouse have a lot of high & regular position jobs in the city. Spelman, FAMU, Howard, Clark, Tuskegee, Cookman & Bama State folks are everywhere here working.

Atlanta aint a working man's city its for hustlers and entrepenuaers. nikkas fukk up trying to come down here to find a job cause it likely ain't much better than the city you coming from job wise.

The Hustlers and Entrepreneurs are the main people that's broke from what it look like.

Engineering you can take anywhere in the world. Nursing you can take anywhere in the world. I think you confusing folks with lame degrees with those who have legitimate in demand degrees

It depends on who you talking about. I go to a monthly meetup of entrepreneurs who are all making a killing in different fields. My boss has a weekly meetup as well with his circles who are all doing fine.

There's a lot of saturation in the common fields Black entrepreneurs like to fill. We got enough barber shops and hair salons, we have restaurants mostly covered, we have enough rappers and drug dealers, have enough clothing designers etc.

There's alot of room in IT, Medical, Legal and Wealth management . Graphic Design and Marketing is sought after here as well. I don't think degrees matter much but then again I'm in IT.

Its easy as hell to get on though if you have hustle and a plan. Hell as long as you got decent credit you can start a subletting/leasing business for nothing. I know a few dudes with no real credentials doing that and making a killing.

Live your own life
It seems the guy with the masters in Finance wasn’t telling the whole story.

-He didn’t attend the University Of Georgia Business school (They Don’t have a Masters in Finance program)

- Based on his LinkedIn
https://www.linkedin.com/in/williamsto/

He has a masters in Housing Economics. While he should still be employed his masters degree is very narrowed focus. His undergrad degree was in Human Resources.
Black people keep drowning themselves in deep debt for useless degrees and Master. I never heard of a Housing Economics for a master degree. :mjlol:

Just as I suspected. I don't know why some folks don't sit they kids down to tell them about these shytty degrees.

I'm willing to bet most folks in ATL struggling cause they got a shytty degree

Grand Opening. Grand Closing

Yeah but being an Entrepreneur is Cut Throat city. How many businesses fail a year? Do they even have startup funds?:mjlol:

Folks claim to be an entrepreneur, but most really ain't about that life. It's all smoke and mirrors. They talk all them entrepreneurial words but that don't mean shyt if you ain't got experience. And then they don't have no fall back, so its really over.

Atlanta is no different than other cities blacks ran to because of the hype and shyt didn’t turned out well

Blacks back in the day ran to Detroit and failed, Harlem and that failed, Los Angeles and those dreams failed and now Atlanta and that’s failing

I feel bad for majority of the natives who at one point was living comfortably and cost of living wasn’t bad and now many of them probably trying to escape the crimes, wannabe bloods and crips, fake love and hip hop folks...

Some other city is next for the downfall

Yep, I noticed that too. Too many black folk running to the next hot city, and have nothing prepared, but always happy with the social scene without money.

A black woman with a degree in Computer Science % of getting a job in her field is high. Likely she’s not as open to relocating and interviews bad.

In Atlanta like most cities I learned it's not what you know..it's WHO YOU KNOW

Nepotisim is strong in Atlanta...the only cats I really see eating in thier field are frat brothers and sorority sisters or people with great networking skills...
(Get some WHITE FRIENDS with Corporate ties)

Because the city is saturated ..you have to stand out by knowing someone plugged in or you will fall on your face ..

Like an ex of mine did....

She had to stay in a extended hotel as well....and she is a college graduate who moved to ATL area

Loves to tout her academic accomplishments just like these people in that article but at the end of the day it don't mean jack shyt if your not CONNECTED
i came in to post this verbatim.. :wow:

before i even moved wo Winston-Salem few years ago- i already had a Chef gig lined up.. place to live, lined up.. and, all i had to do was get here.. and, this aint the only place i had those same options to go..

wild part is.. since i moved here.. i laced so many folks up with jobs in their own city, based off just a co-sign..

all in all.. as you said- its about who you know.. folks gotta step their networking game up.. :francis:

The really scary thing is that first person. Masters in finance from a top 100 business school (University of Georgia's Terry College of Business) in Atlanta and has to flip burgers is just crazy.

I’m sorry but he should just move. These stories never make sense to me. You have the hardest part down. If you can’t get a job in your field and the alternative is flipping burgers you’re fukking up.

I don't know so much about the market from HBCU grads, There are couple companies that have departments dedicated to hiring those group of graduates outside of GA. As for her own issue, she should definitely get her interview skills up and be open to apply out of state. The amount of jobs at entry role in Tech in ATL vs the amount of viable candidates is on really ptty bad, even if you went to GA-Tech. Couple friends went out of state are doing way better.

Tell her to join the BIT Slack, and someone might help with her that HBCU part. And Also tell to apply for Banks on east coast since they are actually looking for people to hire.

Yea man everytime we talk she talks about her friends that are in Austin, Texas, Oregon and other places landing jobs. She's from Jerz. I know she wants to stay near home but it might be that time.

Brooklyn keeps on taking it.

These list usually are bias and use certain criteria’s and most people should ignore them.

What you should be doing is looking at the actual census that shows all the info.

For example the list you showed doesn’t mention the real facts that @Nerdy black guy posted on this thread.

many times on this board black people have vented about having a harder time to grow in Maimi because of the easy access to opportunities that Spanish speakers have. I also personally know more black people who head to Dallas or Houston before San Antonio. And then you have DC which is expensive and Baltimore which has a lot of quality of life concerns currently.

When I look up a cities info. I use the government census to get all the info that I need. Not some silly list from Forbes, Wallethub or Curbed.
