For established professional folks I would say if you want to try Atlanta out. Then get on a big company with offices there and relocate to ATL.

That way you can try the city out without risking it all to be there. If you don't like it you can relocate out of there.

Yep all this. Shoot myself and other black engineers I know have thought about relocating to ATL. But then when them offers come in and they want you to take a 5%, 10%, 20% even 30% pay cut. To live in ATL and pay state taxes in Georgia (no state taxes in Texas).

Then you start reconsidering that shyt. Plus you may go there as an engineer and the market isn't even as good as in Texas. Well then its a lot of this to consider. The Cons sometimes outweighed the Pros.

But you are right it is more so a service economy there than say Seattle or Dallas.

Many folks there haven't recovered from 2008 as you said. Old kat I met in OKC who is a aerospace engineer moved from LA to live in OKC. He got tired of the LA rat race plus he was able to transfer from LA and keep his high salary, but live in OKC.

Anyway he stated he had a twin brother that was also an engineer in ATL. Old kat stated his brother was laid off in 2008 and could never get back on as an engineer (another reason is no one would pay him close to the salary he was making). So the old kats brother said fukk it and started to drive trucks instead.

Thing is his brother had opportunities to leave atlanta and get some high paying jobs in florida and Huntsville. But he was so caught up in the lifestyle of living in Atlanta.

But I ain't gonna knock the city. Atlanta's a great city I can understand as a black person how intoxicating it can be.
This is what people don't get.

Just getting a job isn't the only decision. What if you lose it, how easy is it to replace it. These are things smart people look at.

Atlanta is a super rare city. Atlanta is maybe the only city in America with every type of Black person but in silos. That's damn near impossible to find in most of Black America

Most complaints about Atlanta is almost always two items for Blacks

1. Jobs
2. BW can't find a man that fits what their liking is. Just a good fit in their eyes. Obviously this isn't the case for every BW but is for many.

I mean, isn't this really the way to do it for any city?

I took a pay cut when I moved out here :francis:
I received an offer from a major airline, and they sold me on the “Atlanta lifestyle”, the free flights, and benefits, plus my fiancé is from here and wanted to be close to her mom, so I took it. I had an offer from a company in Dallas I turned down, and the pay was significantly larger than what i was offered from the airline. I’ve since caught up, but I used to think about it all the time. Used to joke with my fiancé, and let her know she’s lucky I love her ass. If we don’t work out, I’m taking my behind to TX or NC.
