I feel like there is no winning with these bluechecks

Kaep tried giving representation on his book cover and they had a problem with that

Fake outrage from people who probably won’t even see the movie regardless.
if the neighborhood doesnt look anything like how they portrayed in the movie, i wouldnt call this fake outrage

imagine if a Black person made a movie in china town and barely had any asians in it and it was all Black people with maybe some blasians in it.

them yellow mfs would cause a social media storm over it.

so I have no issue if Afro Latinos feel left out espescially if they are a big part of that neighborhood.

So they hate the Black Haitians, but love the Black Dominicans?

:comeon:
thats not really crazy as yall make it seem, espescially given the fact that Dominican vs Haitian feud from what i read started with Haitians trying to pull some shyt on the Dominicans

and ever since then its been beef between the two.

those dark dominicans are their family members and partners.

I was just driving through Washington Heights and I saw all shades

I’m not wasting my time watching a musical though to see if it’s an accurate portrayal. Bottom line is if they want to see more Latino media, they need to support their movies more like we do or they will be right back to being just sexy women and thugs in movies. I don’t know too many black led movies that open as small as 11 million, especially with a big production like this. I hate to say it but I don’t think it’s popular outside of a few demographics

Try as hollywood might, to push Latin led leads.

No one cares, Also these latinos do nothing but try to do what ADOS people do or hop on whatever trend and it always ends badly.

No one is interested in latino culture or latin leads like that:yeshrug:

That wasn't always the case

Late 80s and 90s there was a run. Today I agree

No there isn't

That's according to the COLI. The one place where you have posters from west coast/down south/Midwest that act like they are experts on dominicans and probably only encountered 1 or 2 in real life

Most dominicans are brown to black complexion, even if you're a white dominican you more than likely have black dominicans in your family. Theres no racism amongst dominicans because of skin color, Dominican Republic never had a history of structural racism or anything like the Jim crow era. We had a crazy dictator back in the day who tried to get down with hitler, but everyone universally hates that man

The response of the female lead was very

:mjpls:
Yeah. Her answer was definitely suspicious. The whole "we just hired the best people for the job" line is always naive - as if out of the 7 billion people on earth she was the absolute best person to portray this character. Maybe they should've cast a wider net?

On the other hand, the director's answer wasn't as bad as people are making it. At this point, the movie's done, what else can he say except "That's a fair question. Maybe we should talk about it :yeshrug:"

City Pop is largely 70s Rnb too

This is the blueprint of 70% of City Pop

There could be a whole thread on Japan biting black music honestly.

im gonna be honest, its eye opening, but not suprising that they would imitate black artists given the influence they had.

Not at all surprised that a colorist Asian director doing a movie concerning Dominicans would be colorist
