ASAP Rocky says today’s rap music is stuck in an adolescent place and not mature; blames Soulja Boy

Rocky was the first to usher in the regionless/internet era. His first tape was influenced by chopped and screwed, Bone Thugs, 3-6 all with that New York braggadacious over cloud rap beats with swag rap elements. It turned out to be one of the best mixtapes of All-Time. Dude made art, created a different musical backdrop, and aesthetic.

Every project he has dropped he has taken artistic risks.

To really prove Rocky’s point, you have to look at the types of singles that came out after Crank That blew up

The list really goes on. This shyt’s a far cry from Ross, Jeezy, TI first singles. The south was already eating but Soulja set the tone for really remedial, juvenile TikTok type dance songs and the trend never went away

Charles Hamilton said the same thing about Soulja Boy around 2008, that Interscope wasn’t trying to let you drop unless you had a comedy/dance song

The Gibbs song came a whole year before crank that.

I wanna clear some shyt up.. D4L and all that dance music bullshyt that came after I was wilding on 106 and park was all their idea and I never cosigned that shyt. There's a lot of information and a lot years of being connected to a bunch of websites and entities, so I know there still a lot of classics people don't know about. And a lot of of shyt these people just give y'all to run with. When I was in 106 n park live I would go to AOL, fukking AOL that's how long ago this was.. I had a fukking prog or program if you want to call it, that scrolled what music you where playing into the chat rooms( that's how, that's my dJ started). I would go to the miami chat when 106 n park came on and would do my thing by talking and just playing music. I would move the needle (We talked about this) for some shyt but no one was checking up on these people. I was so followed I thought it was everyone and they mama when really it was just them. lol I mean when I talked sometimes they would connect it and shyt.. But i was playing west coast music on the chat. Because i had just found sealed west coast tapes at f.y.e for 50 fukking cent, this is when they where getting rid of their tapes. I played other music too but it was specially this West Coast song that sounded just like a Pharrell song that was in rotation but it was dissing and i was lmao, it had the same chorus and everything, shyt and sounded just like it.. Nothing came of it, so now you see and later on Pharrell shows up in one of his videos looking at the camera and he thinks he's sly and says something, i forgot what it was, and dusted the horse from his polo shirt off.. So now you see what kind of fukk heads they are.. So get off my dikk dumb fukk......

yeah the problem was the Ringtone era and labels not selling CDs due to internet pirating.

Thats why music quality kinda bounced back after streaming and labels gained their control back

Its very interesting what happened.

A lotta artists got left in limbo.

If you put Wale and KRIT out now, they DEMOLISH the competition
