Crime statistics are made public. Can you drop a link describing this being a thing?

The last article is the most relevant. LATimes had a big story on their policie departments spending on PR a while back

Copaganda does three main things. First, it narrows our understanding of safety. Police get us to focus on crimes committed by the poorest, most vulnerable people in our society and not on bigger threats to our safety caused by people with wealth and power.

"But through the stories cops feed reporters, the public is encouraged to measure a city’s safety by whether it saw an annual increase or decrease of three homicides or fourteen robberies — rather than by how many people died from lack of access to health care, how many children suffered lead poisoning, how many families were rendered homeless by illegal eviction or foreclosure, or how many thousands of illegal assaults police committed.

The second function of copaganda is to manufacture crises or “crime surges.” For example, if you watch the news, you’ve probably been bombarded with stories about the rise of retail theft. Yet the actual data shows there has been no significant increase. Instead, corporate retailers, police, and PR firms fabricated talking points and fed them to the media. The same is true of what the FBI categorizes as “violent crime.” All told, major “index crimes” tracked by the FBI are at nearly forty-year lows.

The third and most pernicious function of copaganda is to manipulate our understanding of what solutions actually work to make us safer. A primary goal of copaganda is to convince the public to spend even more money on police and prisons. If safety is defined by street crime, and street crime is dangerously high, then funding the carceral state leaps out to many people as a natural solution."

Again, im confused, are you in here denying that crime is high right now? What are the points you are trying to push in here?

I don't like this shyt where "crime" means "black crime" or is a codeword for black people. The NAACP telling people "it's not racist to speak out about crime" and implying that all the crime in a metropolitan area is black people is some bullshyt. THOSE OTHER GROUPS ARE COMMITTING CRIMES TOO.

You're ignoring there also being an extremely distorted view of what the crime situation is actually like due to the Cops and Media working together via the cops PR teams to push propaganda for funding. Which happens seemingly everywhere in the country. It happened here in my own city, there were constant stories about crime being bad and as soon as a vote to increase police funding at the expense of bar and restaurant patrons happened it went away seemingly over night.

I keep saying it's a grift, we keep seeing it over and over again and all of y'all constantly fall for it. At the very least cops are being purposefully negligent on the job.

I'm sick and fukking tired of this song and dance where cops extort cities for money in order to increase their pay and fatten their pockets and they never actually do shyt. It's nothing but a fukking grift.
Copaganda is real. I get it. In ATL they over hyped crime stats and made every politician bend to that whim. But the problem is people dont want any of it and you're going to have a better answer to that than: "we just need to change society and eliminate poverty"....Ok. Well we have criminals NOW and whats being suggested is a long term solution.

Stopping copaganda and getting cops to actually do their jobs without giving them large sums of money is a NOW solution :heh:

Old black liberal/centrist folks still have faith in cops and I'll never understand why. They'll always abuse power to hurt black people and these people never even remotely attempt to address underlying issues as @TripleAgent pointed out
I'm a black liberal, but i agee. I prefer "good policing" to "tough policing" and since people in this country do everything they can to keep them from being held to a higher standard and having accountability, simply invoking more tougher policies will only serve to hurt innocent black folks as much as it does criminals.

Far better to address issues that contribute to that behavior, and yes its the result of issues/environment/economics etc. Nobody is predisposed to commit crimes.

How does that get addressed, and solved?
Healthy economies where people can be gainfully employed, hence having something to lose.
How does a local government address poverty?

Most people in poverty are not committing crimes

Carjacking someone so you can use their vehicle to joyride, commit armed robberies, and shoot other people is what constitutes as poverty? Nice :obama:
Almost everyone committing these sorts of crimes are poor. People with shyt to lose don't do shyt like that. They're too busy being productive and maintaing/improving their situations.

Is it the government’s job to teach you to be productive? You have to have that mindset to get out of poverty in the first place. What is the government going to do to create self supporting jobs for people in this area?
