Like people have said, he can RAP from a technical standpoint and he has a good voice but he is boring. You can tell he not really an intellectual or reads much cause he really doesn’t have shyt to talk about.

I don’t even really like the Cole comparisons because Cole came out rapping his ASS off and even if he wasn’t rapping about street shyt, his flow, intensity and passion made his shyt SOUND hard. He had more charisma and made his presence felt on a track.

Cole was also versatile he could give you Girl tracks, Club tracks, Straight bars, some introspective shyt. The comparisons not even really close. I feel people only talk about Cordae still cause he has a super star girlfriend :francis:

I mean....he's 24. Most of the rappers I listened to growing up was on their 3rd and 4th albums by age 24.

It's not really the same thing anymore. None of these newer rappers are going to make albums like Paid in Full or Strictly Business when they're in college. The pressure isn't there for them like it was with the older rappers, who had to evolve quicker at a younger age in order to survive.

Kendrick released GKMC when he was 25, Drake released Take Care when he was 25, Cole released FHD when he was 29. We're at a point now where the maturity and life experience needed to make really good albums isn't going to come until later.

He's kinda forced.
I feel like he'd be bigger if he had the YFN infront of his name or whatever it is.

I don’t know how to describe it but I think it’s the lisp. The lisp plus not being as charismatic kinda hurts Him. It’s the same with Joyner Lucas to me. He hasn’t tried and come off as Corny as Joyner but you can’t ignore the lisp

lol, funny about the lisp but some dudes have made careers wit it.

For the same reasons people shyt on Logic (and Logic had a crazy backstory): you look at him and you're already predisposed to dismissing him, to the point where it negates his skills. He's gonna get J. Cole comparisons, but why does that not hurt half the game who legit look, sound and rap the same?
I feel the same way about JID. They don't talk about shyt.
Disagree. They do. But we're in a time where everything blends in together, so it's hard to pivot from what we hear normally to then play Cordae, JID and all those Dreamville rappers. You have to be in a mood for it. In some ways, he's the rap equivalent of H.E.R.: talented as fukk, but you gotta be in a certain mood to play them.

a lot of those rappers had been living with demos and perfecting songs for years before they recorded their debut albums

these kids today learn while they on. takes them a few projects to get to the same level.

This is why being a street, trap or gangster rapper is the cheat code and preferred path if you’re trying to make it in rap

You can be Like durk and mention the trenches and opps in every single verse and no one would claim “you’re not talking about shyt”

That's not true cause Kendrick, J Cole, Kanye, Cudi, Lupe and many others took a different route.

However with Cordae or Jid what do they actually speak on. Is it anything that grabs you or is creative or can they only just rap?

You named 5 rappers with legit mainstream success that aren’t street rappers and those rappers debut were at least 10 years ago

His cadence and the beats of his songs, don't interest me. Dreamville got mentioned, but at they are getting those 2 things right in that department. You don't necessarly need to be a lyrical genius, you need to be able to have your own vibe and manuever effectively.

There's like this new breed of MC that are dope lyrically, but I can't get into their music and it seems the reason is, is because they have no backstory/background that's interesting. A bunch of nice raps with nothing behind it.

I feel the same about Kendrick and Cole...

One thing the Source and XXL gave fans back in the day was backstory. Now, shyt about affiliation for the most part..
