Talent roster was serious back then for R&B Acts:
Boyz II Men
Silk
Shai
H-Town
BBD
New Edition
SWV
En Vogue
Mint Condition
TTT
Hi-Five

But Jodeci was torn apart by destructive vices in which they wouldn't even hint at recovery until nearly 20 years later:

Devante Swing on them keys man interloping New Jack Swing, R&B, and some pop at the end:

Playing for Stevie Wonder with the key change:

Jodeci in the style of Anthony Hamilton:

Jodeci Unplugged:

As a pianist myself, Devante's arrangement, song writing, and production abilities along with his virtuosity really put Jodeci in league above many of the greats I mentioned. Once music shifted from New Jack Swing/Pure R&B, we got to the mid-nineties 16 Bars from a rapper plus singer/songstress formula....Jodeci perfected the church sound with the very smooth production by Devante...

Honorable Mention:

Now if Silk kept it up with Keith Sweat on their production team, we'd have an argument

and before you bandwagoners break into fake outrage; let me say, I was an actual fan of theres in real-time. and I still am, but I don't know how much longer its gonna last with this ever-growing stench.

2 things I love about jodeci:
- they have the best singles catalog of modern-day r&b
- on paper, theyre the goat. by that I mean, you have kc & jojo as the frontmen vocally. Devante was making a run for goat producer. Dalvin was another great musical guy in the background and he would bust his lil raps on the remixes that made you feel like the coolest dude in the world while reciting them. that starting lineup is untouchable. not just for modern r&b but that goes for any r&b group of any era. yea I said it.

2 negatives that stand out to me:
- sure they have the best singles catalog, but they don't have a real classic album. they were basically the naughty by nature of r&b, and they got away with it. out-the-park homerun singles but the albums always fell short.
- they get credit for being the pioneers of all this chit, but in reality, they were just rolling with chit that was already poppin. they didn't start any of the stuff they get credit for.
Neg pending.

but thats how i know you a youngster..because this song is the 2nd to last on that album

That's what I know which is why I said it nullifies the notion that there's no reason to listen to the second half of their albums. There's posters basically saying the second half of their albums are garbage. I was saying that song completely kills that argument.

we're not comparing it to today. you can boost any joe schmoe from the past with that logic.

3rd album wasn't much better than the 1st 2. they just spread the great songs around, instead of throwing them on side A.

plus the album was longer and the best songs aren't as good as the best songs on the previous albums in general.

you can say its their best album because its the most solid all-around, but I wouldn't call it a classic.

I was waiting for you to come in here and purposely ignore the thread title, while creating a diversion with a strawman argument.

so h-town's 1st albums are considered classics now?

better yet, how about you address the thread title first.
