"As far as hip-hop is concerned, it's become so generic at this point....

Cause you agree with him doesn’t mean he knows what he is talking about

His “legendary” music careers means absolutely nothing to me seeing as is I don’t know who is and don’t care about rock music

He done rubbed elbows with the best of them in his prime tho.

Hate to say it...but the fact is Hip-Hop (mainstream that is) has peaked as an art form and it’s greatest artists have already come and gone. If you follow a few other genres like Rock and R&B, the music got progressively better and the artists got more creative and transcended the talents of the previous generation in each decade. Hip-Hop was on this same track from 1979 to about 96/97 where it started to become overly commercialized and got progressively worse to a point where being cookie-cutter became more profitable than being original. The biggest artists in each generation are growing less and less talented. From 96/97 to now...we’ve gone from Pac,Big, Nas, Jay, Snoop, Bone Thugs, Lauryn Hill, Foxy & Kim to Drake, Migos, Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, K Dot & Cole (who are decent). That shyt is a de-evolution if there ever was one. I won’t even speak on the :trash: mid 2000s. shyt was an abomination. All I’ll say is it is very telling when 50 Cent, Lil Wayne, and Kanye are the “greats” of an era.

R&Bs not that much better at this point but it took way longer to become :flabbynsick: than Hip-Hop and has a WAY longer list of legendary artists and classic albums.
fukk your hot take.

fukk Slash and his opinion.

Kendrick Lamar just won a goddamn Pulitzer Prize while simultaneously putting out the biggest ALBUM of last year.

Lupe Fiasco just put out a masterpiece theater collection chronicling dead slaves.

You still have heavyweights like Nas & Jay dropping albums with ZERO “Top 40” hits debuting near the top of charts.

Childish Gambino put out the biggest single/video of the year talking about gun violence and police brutality. His followup single talked about Global Warming and climate change.

I ain’t tryin to hear NONE of that “generic” talk from these old ass Cacs who shytted on the artform when it began, shytted on the artfrom when it reached its peak, and CONTINUE to shyt on the artform now thats its overtaken your long gay ass stringy hair and overrated metal guitar riffs.
Facts. These people said HIP HOP WASNT A LEGITIMATE MUSICAL ARTFORM in the era they now claim as its peak. fukking snakes.

He's right tho :manny:
I keep up with hip hop enough to know that it has become a shell of it's former self
A lot of hip hop of today just sounds like some of the most non creative music
Rhymes ain't as clever no more or even saying much of anything if at all these days and a lot of the beats sound the same and or most of the time are straight up wack.
No substance..it's all about having a good flow that rides over a beat..

I mean "Mask off" is the biggest example...

nikka was just saying "molly percocets" because it was catchy..shyt really had nothing to do with the song.:russ:

He's talking about mainstream hip-hop. The fact of the matter is this is the only era I can think of where hype and flash are more important than skill, ability or what is being said on the mic.

Now granted its been a solid year for under the radar guys like Royce da 5'9. Elzhi, Lupe, and other rappers but these are veterans.

Sure? I'd say a good part of the late-00s are just as guilty of this.

Actually hype and flash over lyrics has been the thing for quite a while now... if they weren't, Puffy and Master P would've never sold more than the dudes we thought were ill. We would'nt have had songs like "Laffy Taffy" and "Crank That Soulja Boy" dominating btwn '05-'07. This definitely ain't the only era for that.
