As a whole, the NBA has lost around 45% of its viewership since 2012.

For those saying they shoot to many 3s...whats the alternative? Is a midrange J more aestetically pleasing than the same shot 5-10 feet further back? You cant post or drive consistently without shooting to open that up for you. So without rules being changed what are they supposed to do?

Mind you, I am not a fan of how 3 centric it is either. But I understand and accept that this is what the rules dictate.

Is scoring averages up? A long shot is a low % shot and then when folks ain't making them, they double and triple down and keep firing them bytches.

Like FUKK man take it to the damn rim.

What play style do people enjoy? The up and down, original style had basketball in at best 6th place in the American consciousness and the Finals on tape delay before Magic and Bird. The rugby ball of the 90s/00s started getting record low numbers after Mike retired. So what exactly is the style people want? Or is it even about the style to begin with? High periods of interest coincide with trascendent personalities/controversy regardless of style. Magic/Bird, Mike, Decision, Steph. A different style each time.

That’s why I keep saying in all these threads it’s a nuanced conversation without a simple answer

Style is part of it but not the whole story. The Nuggets are the perfect example. They take the least amount of 3s in the league, average the most post ups and are near the top of the league in mid range attempts. In terms of balance in their shot profile, they’re pretty much closest thing to the NBA of yesteryear

But they play in Denver and their superstar is a Serbian cac with an accent who doesn’t have a flashy personality on or off the court, so regardless of how they actually play it’s a bunch of ppl who will not be interested off GP

The current negative discourse around the NBA is the result of several factors all coming to a head at once

I'm old enough to remember when teams had a certain style of how they played based on the personnel of their lineup.

Now it's just a bunch of Mr Me too's firing threes

THIS

Is a crock of SHYT

If I had to grade things that impact why they're losing viewers it's th below being the top 4.

Social issues: crackas want blacks to be docile not to speak up on injustices like the NFL
Player movement : this absolutely impacts fanbases, fans stop supporting teams when it's obvious teams aren't seen as important as players
Schedule: NBA needs to figure out how to make games seem more meaningful, nva cup is a great start but imo needs to be longer and consistent. Maybe knockout rounds around certain dates with it ending near Allstar break.

Refusal to build teams outside of major markets: Steven a and guys like him promoting only knicks or lakers is bad for the league. Look at the nfl commentators, a lot of them be fans of certain organizations but they aren't openly promoting " so and so should go to the steelers" it's brainless mindless commentary.

I dont think style of play has anything to do with it

I dont think its style at all. If they played like this in the 90s/early 2000s the same folks complaining woulda lapped it up and be pining for it now. How do I know? We went from fast break up and down artistry for the first 40+ years to football on a court due to expansion. Scrubs that had no business in the league were in rotations bricking 2 pters. And everybody wants the football with the scrubs back. Because it looked good? No. Because they were kids with limited options and the GOAT (on court and marketing) or his kid was playing. I can objectively look back at that shyt as :scust:. Just like plenty of stuff during the Attitude era ranged from :wtf: to straight cringe but because you had Rock and Stone Cold around it was a golden era. The issue is that next transcendent star hasnt risen. And the old nikkas done held on longer than one could expect and that nikka still aint here.

It’s always hilarious to me people who wouldn’t be able to identify common basketball play sets or who don’t know anything about defense other than bullshyt faux tough guy bravado shyt say that teams don’t run plays, that all teams play the same, and that seemingly players don’t play defense apparently most players are simply standing idle as the competition does what it wants :dead:

NGL that NBA Cup is insulting to me for some reason. They throw some ugly courts and fancy graphics over a bunch of glorified regular season games and are trying to act like it’s important when there’s really zero stakes or importance to the overall goal of winning the Larry O’Brien? It’s a slap in the face lol. Why do I care if the damn Hawks are in the semifinals? They’re not going anywhere.
