So is EDM a genre or collective of genres under one umbrella called EDM?

You know how Americans b*stardised Hip Hop and call allsorts of fukkery Hip Hop? Same thing?
Damn...you started off so strong :snoop:

You know "hip hop" isn't ONE thing, right?

You can go sit down with this vast generalization and shyt.

You brits are more delusional than we thought. :camby:

And if we really want to talk about origins of black music lets just go to Africa. All stems from there.

USA is very influential when it comes to perfecting the current trend, packaging it and selling it. So if you watch MTV and BET you would be forgiven for thinking that America sets the trend. But i can't really hear any innovators coming from the US in 2014. Europe and UK create the sound, America gentrify the fukk out of it and sell it.
How the hell are you CONSISTENTLY wrong about everything? :mindblown:

We got New Zealanders copying our alternative jazz scene and Australians trying to be rappers :pachaha:

Nah, most music of today was influenced by James brown or disco. James brown changed the syncopation of music with the way he produced records and had the drums being played(funky drumming) and disco did the same thing with the four on the floor drumming technique.

Modern dance/funky music wouldn't exist as we know it today w/o James Brown

Reggaeton came from Reggae... It's just Reggae in spanish

I don't even think they use drums in Salsa today..

Most music you hear today was influenced by Reggae

@Napoleon London comfortably had the best edm scene in the world for a long time, the amount of new genre's & sounds that came out there while the american rave scene was pretty much non existent is worth acknowledging.

Because London was up on American electronic music whereas in America these scenes were kept underground. Most of the innovators in America from the 80's had to got to Europe to make a living because they were treated like gods in those places but ignored in their own country of origin.

First academic conference on techno music and its African American origins (2006 article)

"Maultsby said the conference will re-establish the African American origins of the genre and an understanding of the context from which it came.

"It is interesting how the music migrated from Detroit to Europe, and the music became associated with rave parties, and then migrated back to the U.S., and Americans became involved ... and the African American identity became invisible," Maultsby said. "Music can be appropriated and re-appropriated, and history can be distorted as a result of that ...Very few people associate techno with its African American origins."

There was type of resentment against dance music since the Disco era ended but really the modern dance/clubbing scene isn't all that different from the Disco days

You're making it seem like I said no other place makes music

I didn't say that.
