Here's the most important question though...

How low are yal going down with the bar? To your chest? I'm 5'10, like 155-160, I used to start on the bench doing 185 but I wasn't going all the way down with it. Mainly because I would be working out solo and had no spot. I could get a good 2 sets of 8 in before going down in weight.

I started working out with some friends more often now, and one of my boys was all like...

"Kiss your chest with the bar"

So I said fukk that and just went down. We do 4 sets of 8, I start at 135 now and just go up to 175

I'm trying to get to the vertical pushup level, where your feet don't touch the ground. :lawd: I don't know if I'll make it there, but that's my goal. I don't even use weights anymore, straight bodyweight. I'm 225, so it's a good workout. Muscular endurance and explosion > raw strength. You'd also be surprise how much your max increases after doing straight pushups for about 6 months, but either way, I rather be able to do 100 pushups in a minute, or 225 pounds 25 times, than do 400 once.

Im not hating, because i agree on the pushup tip actually....pushupps and other calisthenics are great for strength....but how is the bolded possible? You doing greater than a pushup per second for a whole minute. My rate slows down significantly after like 30 :heh:. Sounds all kinds of wrong my nikka lol

I lift dolo so the first set I can hit my chest with no problem. Midway thru the next set I'm like :unsure:, the third set I'm usually cheating the entire way through :yeshrug:

Thing is, I wouldn't even be cheating that bad, but after hearing, "Go down lower" after every rep I was like :dry:

It's all good though. My workouts have improved since doing them with my boys.

Personally, my best when I was in high school was 64. I have a friend who did 80 that same year ( :whoo:) But my point was that I would RATHER be able to do 100 pushups in a minute than lift 400 pounds.

Oh, and I just checked the official world record, it's 140, so 100 is definitely possible:

Hey...it takes time to get to that point if you are NOT working out like that. We are no longer a society dominated by agriculture where you gained muscle by simply working on the farm or even some industrial jobs. The average male is lifting a pencil, coffee mugs, or even using heavy machinery to help lift things........I'm at 185 on the bench right now, but trying to get back to 225 where I will probably be satisfied with......but I was struggling to get to 185...takes time and disclipline....

I've never maxed, but when I used to do it, I repped out at 185 (10x), honestly, clean and jerk is almost an aerobic workout, I start sweating like I'm at the equator when doing those. I was able to do more than 185, but never while maintaining my form. I start using my lower back when I got tired over that weight

I always touched my chest. That's why I always check the bench has the lower hooks. If it only has one hook, I never push the limit. Nothing worse than struggling and waiting for some azzhole to casually walk over and help you while the fate of your sternum hangs in the balance :damn:

I just came back from the gym I had chest today too...

15 reps 90 lb dumbbells
12 reps 100 lb dumbbells
10 reps 100 lb dumbbells
8 reps 100 lb dumbbells

I usually do about 6 exercises 3 pressing and 3 stretching.
