I'm trying to get to the vertical pushup level, where your feet don't touch the ground. I don't know if I'll make it there, but that's my goal. I don't even use weights anymore, straight bodyweight. I'm 225, so it's a good workout. Muscular endurance and explosion > raw strength. You'd also be surprise how much your max increases after doing straight pushups for about 6 months, but either way, I rather be able to do 100 pushups in a minute, or 225 pounds 25 times, than do 400 once.
Here's the most important question though...
How low are yal going down with the bar? To your chest? I'm 5'10, like 155-160, I used to start on the bench doing 185 but I wasn't going all the way down with it. Mainly because I would be working out solo and had no spot. I could get a good 2 sets of 8 in before going down in weight.
I started working out with some friends more often now, and one of my boys was all like...
"Kiss your chest with the bar"
So I said fukk that and just went down. We do 4 sets of 8, I start at 135 now and just go up to 175
Im not hating, because i agree on the pushup tip actually....pushupps and other calisthenics are great for strength....but how is the bolded possible? You doing greater than a pushup per second for a whole minute. My rate slows down significantly after like 30 . Sounds all kinds of wrong my nikka lol
I lift dolo so the first set I can hit my chest with no problem. Midway thru the next set I'm like , the third set I'm usually cheating the entire way through
