So for EPL based players - quick summary of what they have to deal with
June 11th - July 11th - EURO 2021
2-3 week break for players involved in Euros
July 2nd or 5th - August 14th - PRE-SEASON
August 14th - May 22nd 2022 - 2021/2022 EPL Season
And the going into the new season which is set to run from
August 14th - May 22nd 2022 - players will still have to contend with
- FA Cup
- League cup games
- WC Qualifiers
- Champions League
- Europa League
- Europa Conference League
Chances are we'll likely see the
EPL start in late July 2022 as the World Cup 2022 is set to run from
November 21st to December 18th 2022 - unless they plan on running the later part of the 2022 season into late July 2023/early August 2023 - which is another headache.
I haven't even broached the subject of players travelling, different weather conditions and oh, possibility of more strains/mutations of COVID. Players get a month of at best to recharge but with all that accumulated fatigue, wouldn't surprise me if we begin to see a sharp increase in lower body injuries and career-ending injuries. Unless some of these competitions get cancelled ( which I doubt will happen), the only smart ways to deal is to allow teams to name 12 players on a bench and freedom to use up-to 7 subs a games.
