Yes, that would be an "Iron Man" prequel. However, a movie about his baby sitter, while obviously taking place in the same universe, would not be a prequel unless it somehow lead to the events in "Iron Man".
A prequel is a story that takes place in the same universe, but specifically has elements that contribute/connect to the story that comes after it.
"In the same universe" can mean a lot of things. It could be something as simple as one character....like Detective John Munch appeared on "Homicide: Life on the Street"....the same character later appeared on "The Wire"....and oddly he also appeared on "X-Files". So all 3 of those shows are technically in the same universe, despite having no other connection.
"Prometheus" has too many ties to "Alien" to be called anything other than a prequel. Same derelict ship, same "Space Jockey" life form, same company that hired Ripley, same android like Bishop, etc. Some of the stuff you see in "Prometheus" is directly related to things that were later seen in "Alien".
Fred.
who is detective john munch,...i do not remember him from the wire?
i never watched the other shows,...could you tell me, hexa?

EDIT: shyt made me forget the question i came to ask lol....Brehs that opening scene still has me on the fence so i'll ask yall....yall believe those Engineers meant to create us or it was an accidental side effect to dude dying??? I mean i can't tell if he was set-up/murdered or if he was a sacrificial lamb/suicide.
In all honestly I don't think a director's cut can save this one. A directors cut can piece together a 3-5 holes and salvage a disjointed plot but 15-20 holes???I enjoyed the movie but it had it's flaws.
Namely most of the characters were poorly written and acted as plot devices rather then actual characters.
I have a feeling a directors cut will be superior.
I will say that this film made me think more and ask more questions then any other mainstream film I've seen lately. Moat movies hand the plot on a silver platter and beat you over the head with it, which I hate.
so what does everyone expect or hope to see in the sequel?
I was also sorta confused by the opening scene
Ridley Scott said that that could be "any" world, not necessarily Earth. For some reason I dont think they will continue with the Shaw/David story. Maybe some new mission where they find the remnants of Prometheus and trace Shaw to wherever she was going. Maybe they hear that Shaw and David got clapped on site when they went to the Engineer world and decide on another plan.
I find it hard to believe that the company would spend a trillion dollas on a spaceship carrying their founder and his daughter and would not wanna go check out what happened to them.
I dont think we will see Ridley do the sequel though. If it happens I think he will exec produce and oversee it, but will hire anther director. He is an old dude and already has like 3 more movies lined up to do.
What Does David Say To The Engineer In 'Prometheus'? (SPOILER ALERT)
For those asking about what David said to the engineer.
Don't know if it's been posted, but here ya go.
