Is it necessary to have seen the other Alien movies to enjoy and/or understand the movie?

Some people I know haven't seen the other movies and are wondering whether it matters.

they def redesigned the "space jockey" into a whole other creature than it was in alien

in alien its a big hideous biomech organism that is basically part of the ship it flies

Also, the space jockey in Alien had been there for so long that his body basically fused to the seat and he was becoming fossilized. They kinda went out their way to mention that in Alien too.

I am high as fukk and right now, and that shot actually looks different seeing it now versus sober. It looks like the lower face, upper chest of an Engineer. Like the mural was so big that the flashlight doesn't capture the entire structure. The arms stretched out, and the Xeno head is armor covering its chest plate. Trippy as fukk!
