You would be correct. That is euro culture, with regional variations as Mexico is a big ass country. It’s in south Mexico that you really have a true sense of native influence. I mean, the zapatistas in oaxaca are essentially native farmers that have their own autonomous region.I am not even sure if that is entirely their culture. That just seems like some shytty European stuff that they adopted, like that polka music they play with those terrible ass sounding accordions that the Germans and other Europeans brought to that region. So a lot of that shyt came to them from the Europeans, which I guess makes sense because most Mexicans are probably mixed raced rather than true native people.
Their true cultural impact is probably something akin to what the native people in the USA were doing, which is actually pretty cool.
That is not to say that ancient traditions didn’t survive. Even the Catholicism down there is a syncretic mix of ancient traditions and the new euro sensibilities. That’s why occultic figures like Santa muertewthrive, as they embody the underground ethos of Mexican culture. Mexico has seen a lot of bloodshed which has to be abated…I’ve always found this personification of death to be interesting, as you also have la catrina, and day of the dead celebrations that many people, at the very least, openly acknowledge.
A large reason why our native culture is lost is due to European wanton destruction of priceless artifacts, codices, art, etc. Some codices and artwork survived that was recorded by individuals such as Bernardo de sahugin.
