Mario Van Peebles is almost always who I think of whenever this topic comes up. He has a very gritty, realistic, almost film-noir type style that's on par with Nolan &co, but he's never been given a big budget Hollywood project that gives him a chance to "prove himself" on the big screen, so he gets ignored.
So we not giving the Hughes Bros. any love?

And you know what's crazy is that scorsesee is overrated... TBH in my book...
He's good but I take Nolan over Scorsesee anyday...
