Gun manufacturers advertise the weapons they sell to militaries and police as "assault rifles", because they are capable of select fire.

Adding the word "assault" in front of a firearm does not make it more or less deadly. It's just a stupid term the media loves to run with. They hate the features that modern firearm have like a previous poster said.

These two function the same way.

How is one more "assaulty" than the other? Because one has a adjustable stock?



A semi-auto fire arm is just that. Yes they are deadly, no one is disputing that.

Raise the age to own a semi auto to 25.

America is stupid as hell… that being said, assault rifles have no business on the streets. What that guy did to those kids would not have happened with some other type of weapon. Yea he would have been able to kill some, but not the numbers he put up.

I will also mention that the AR-15 style platform is an easy and modular rifle, easily customizable. Those that don't have the hand dexterity or upper body strength will find it easy to use. There is also very little recoil, unlike say a shotgun which can hurt the person using it and also very unwieldy at times for certain individuals. I always suggest shooting with either an AR-15 or a VERY LIGHT .22 pistol for women who are really new to firearms.

If you have land you can also defend it from predators such as coyotes and wild hogs. These are a major issue in the Southwest and can damage property, crops, etc

Home defense as mentioned. Anyone well trained can defend their home with them without issue.

Again in the instance of civil unrest there have been many times where LEO did not intervene in violence and civil unrest. We can't say that these issues are rare occurrences given American history even over the past 10 years.

To say we don't need tools to defend our communities no matter how 'scary' they are is a slap in the face to our ancestors.

When George W Bush didn't send in the National Guard into New Orleans during Katrina they were left there defenseless. It was a crime to leave them there. We need to be able to defend ourselves.

The average citizen can't legally get a military grade gun either because those are automatic. If someone else wants a rifle, they shouldn't be prohibited from getting one. It would have been just as easy to do a mass shooting with a pistol, and in fact may be easier since they are easier to conceal. Once they come for the rifles in the name of 'mass shootings', they will come for the pistols. If we're going to talk about mass killings, no one has done mass killings better than the government on an unarmed populace... to the tune of millions of bodies in a short time period. One only has to look at Pol Pot, Stalin, or Mao Ze Dong.

In fact, criminals can get a hold of switches to turn their pistol automatic...


Criminals don't obey laws and if they are ready to commit a mass shooting, they don't really care about what happens after the fact. 'Gun control' only disarms legal gunowners.

Gang members plugged into the black market economy getting illegal guns is different than incels with limited social skills being about to get a illegal AR off the street. Make it legally harder to get these guns are you solve the school shooting problem. The gang problem will still exist though.

I'm for reform but to say a certain group of people don't need weapons is not a good argument nor, as I mentioned, the use of a firearm is not one size fits all.

Civil Rights wasn't just won by people just having sit ins and marching. It was the threat of armed self defense also, so yes at times it does take fire to fight with fire.

Most of the gun violence you are mentioning is handgun related. Violence overall has been going down the past two decades and some of that involves police brutality (which I think is a good reason to own guns). The issue is in America is the phenomenon of mass shootings which I think is a different issue. They're not the same thing.

i never said it had to be an amendment and i never said it had to be "ripped out". it could very easliy be clarified or added onto to fit the times. my point was laws can change and legal interpretations of what is a constitutional right can change. when you know better you do better, that's why they call the constitution a "living document". you come into a debate spouting "well its a constitutional right" doesn't mean squat and is pretty intellectually lazy
