Are soccer fans the same as NBA fans when it comes to stanning players instead of teams?

In football/soccer there are only like 5 players that people would stan no matter the club. Most fans put the club first and the player a distant 2nd. I think the only exception is when fans stan a certain player due to playing for their home country. Like I can't imagine a Korean not stanning Heung-Min Son wherever he goes. Also, I am sure the same for players like Salah, Osimhen, Modric, etc.

So. Cal
I support Chelsea no matter who is playing. I support the USMNT no matter who is playing but dont expect much as they rehired that doofus Greg to coach. Ill follow the Gold Cup as its the last tourney before Greg takes over but after that ill casually watch. Oh yea, fukk the USSF.

But to answer your question, ofc there are some who do this as soccer is too big of a sport. shyt, my son is a prime example. He loves Messi and supporrted both Baraca and PSG. Now hes going to follow Intern Miami.

But there are no fans like soccer fans. When u get to the Euro fans, they support their local club regardless how good or bad and they will show up in numbers as well.

it’s not the sport itself….the same dikkeaters of the NBA players would be dikkeating football players if they grew up in South America or Europe and vice versa. Online the biggest dikkeaters in football be Muslims/Arabs and Indians though…shyts weird

No not at all

You can stan a player but you have to stick with your team

I like casually following the NBA because they dont have that culture

Now you see this is a good example

A kid in Europe would still stan Messi but he ain't changing his team once or he's getting cooked :dead:

It happens. Years ago when Javier Hernandez was signed by Manchester United a bunch of Mexican fans followed the club.

Majority of those soccer stan player fans are generally from countries who don't have a strong soccer tradition so they will piggyback. They are the ones changing teams once their player leaves.
Then you have the *insert country * national team fans who will support/follow their fellow country people where ever they go.
Outside of maybe 5-6 players in the history of the game

lol at all the exceptions. So no one stans players EXCEPT those particular 5-6 big players OR if they're from countries that don't have a strong soccer tradition OR if they're supporting their fellow country people.

Those "exceptions" cover literally billions of people. :pachaha:

people don't stan players if they've never played with their fav. team. Also because football is international so many people have fav. clubs in different countries.

That's another massive "exception". Since most global fans tend to stan the same few teams, and all the best players cycle through those same teams, then damn near all the best players end up with stans who don't suddenly stop following them the moment they play for some other club.

4 of the 8 most popular players in the UK right now are Messi, Ronaldo, Modric, and Mane. None of those play for the UK National Team OR for a British club, so how are they the most popular players there if they don't have their own stans? Neymar, Muller, Kane, Lewandowski, Eriksen, Benzema are all among the favorite players globally too. Are we really going to pretend that soccer fans only root for those guys when they're on their favorite club team, and aren't following them when they're in the World Cup or other situations too?

IF YOURE A LOYAL PERSON IRL ITLL REFLECT IN YOUR FANDOM

IF YOURE LOYAL TO 1 MAN BECAUSE YOU LIKE THE WAY HE MOVES AS OPPOSED TO REPRESENTING A COLLECTIVE BIGGER THAN THE INDIVIDUAL.. I REALLY HAVE TO QUESTION THE MOTIVES

:dame:

Personally, it seems more logical to enjoy watching Kobe because you like the way he plays than enjoy watching whatever random roster is on the court just because that's who the Buss family put together this year.

I understand that for most people sports is emotional, not logical, and so they're emotionally invested in whatever team they picked when they were children. And I'm not going to criticize them for that. But for the emotional fans to constantly act so insecure about the logical fans that they have to bring it up thousands of times on this board....what are you getting out of that? Why keep making threads about it or bringing it up in every thread?

Just accept that some people have logical reasons for what they like rather than purely emotional reasons. Everyone is different. What would be so hard about falling back and appreciating that?

You know how your a Portland fan but you stan LeBron. That's how it is. You don't stan the player over your club especially if they currently don't play for or have never had any association with your club. You can still stan the player but club/team comes first

If you already have your club team and then your national team player is playing in a different country then you follow them. But you don't follow their club team you follow yours.

So take the 90's when Nigerian international Nwankwo Kanu joined Arsenal. Alot of Nigerian fans started supporting Arsenal once when Kanu left 5 years later the fans stayed as Arsenal fans but still followed Kanu because he is their national team player. That is completely different from supporting United to Real to Juve to United to the Saudi team.
