Are final bosses becoming an endangered species?

Co-sign on Uncharted 2 and MGS4. Infamous wasn't bad either. Even if the final boss isn't the greatest, it's still better than no boss at all.

Me3 spoilers
:pacspit: at Me3 for denying me a last true boss fight. The lack of a true decent final fight is what pissed me off the most (way more than the ending). Nobody cares about a verbal battle. I was running towards the beam hoping to :violent: :bustback: on the reapers. I didn't know they would deny me a last fight. Just wanted one more battle :to:
ME2 made me feel like I accomplished something by beating the last boss after losing core members in my squad. Then ME3 was like :wtf:.

yeah, alot of games are like this now days. Tomb Raider had a poor excuse of a final boss but it never really had any real bosses anyway, but yeah im not feeling the anticlimactic endings.

Yeah I might have an old school mentality missing final bosses or whatever...but a lot of endings to recent games have me going "that's it?"

Seriously several high profile titles in recent history have came out without a final boss. The IGN review says Bioshock Infinite ends in a much organic way than with a final boss. Are game developers waking up to the idea that creating these final bosses for the sake of having them is just awkward? A game like Metal Gear Solid 4 had an interesting take on the final boss that was pretty enjoyable but not conventional.

Long as motherfukkers are still cranking out sick battles like this:-

The final boss anit going anywhere son.

In platinum we trust.

Honestly, all action games released this year so far Have had a decent final boss.

And as for this idea that the final boss "breaks immersion in the story"....

Put the controller down and slap yourself in the fukking face. If you want to be immersed in a story go read a fukking book nikka. Games are there to be played. A final boss should be the most immersive experience you can possibly have in a video game as it should take every ounce of concentration you have to beat it, using the sum total of all the skills and techniques the game has taught you up to that point.

seriously some of you nikkas should just give up gaming, all you wanna to is press one button and have the game play itself. Have some shame man.

don't act like the insanity that happened at the end of Mass Effect 3 was easy just cause there wasn't a final boss. the game throws several of the worst enemies in the game all at you at the same time.

These new gamers aint built like us old school players. :smugfavre:

If they can't beat a game in one or two sittings, they get too frustrated. Gotta look up walk thrus on YouTube.

We would waste a good 2-3 hrs back in the day just trying to figure out how to jump over something that we kept dying on :to:

That has got nothing to do with your original point bruv. Developers need to wake up to making more layered and difficult boss fights not less.

The final boss should be the final exam, the point in the game where you prove that you can really play this game or prove that you arent ready to see the final ending.

I guarantee if ME3 had a proper final boss fight, people would of given less of a fukk about the shytty ending. They would be happy enough they beat the boss more than anything.

Name me one game will a balls hard final boss that is worse because of it.

some games a final boss works and some it doesn't in say a JRPG you're gonna have a final boss with two or three forms.

honestly like again Mass Effect 3 if Bioware would have done what they originally were planning it would have been corny. the boss fight at the end of the first game was fine but once the enemies became the Reapers that game couldn't have ended in a boss fight that made sense.

some of these more narrative heavy games can't craft believable organic final bosses.

Realest line in this thread.

I think this mainly applies to action combat games though.
