Are albums now leaking LATER than they usually do in the past?

It seems like labels dont send out tagged promo copies to reviewers or journalists anymore

Im guessing its mostly public listening sessions where security is present

I havent seen an "Advance" or "Promo" leak in a while

Itunes release a week before it would drop in stores ... They promo'ed it that way so a lot of ppl instead of looking for bootleg links .. knew it was only available on itunes and just bought it there. Then the ppl who are stuck on getting CD's .. probably heard it before .. but then got the chance to purchase the hardcopy a week later.

Its almost matching the movie release ... think about it. You can go watch a movie .. but for you to get a dvd you have to wait for a while till its out. I mean of course with mp3's ... once you buy the "ticket" u own the mp3. But as far as CD's ... u had to wait to get it.

Plus think about it they had 2 singles in rotation and another about to drop. If each single is bought 10 times. It was counted as an album. I believe something like that was done 50's sales once too ... where since there was so many digital sales it was a lil bit funny with nielsen calculations for em.

They released it first to itunes. It went to retail like 2 weeks later.

They had one of the producers on the album literally sleep with the files. Kanye stopped exchanging beats and vocals with other artists/producers and insisted that everything was done in studio with him around the time he was recording MBDTF. Watch the Throne took that idea and went further with it.

Records were a lot easier to leak previously because people got sloppy, other people would start sharing, and then someone with a view from near the inside would post it to a file sharing network just because they could. The industry finally started tightening their circles and the time between submission to online retailers for digital distribution and release dates has gotten smaller.

? Albums usually get at the manufacturing plant where they press them up in huge amt's . . . And they do need a certain time to press em up. All it usually takes is 1 worker..

Plus certain copies they give to industry insiders have drops on them a lot of times that will indicate its a label copy. Just like movie companies have watermarks on their movies they send out for reviews ..
It takes one worker true enough, but it's a bigger risk at retail. So cutting out the time its at retaail before the actual sell dates cuts it down tremendously.

and albums never used to leak with promo shyt in them? U must be new to this.

Your talking about Radio station copies .. I'm talking about copies shared among producers n other insiders.

Radio station copies are to played on the radio .. those are the ones I mostly see leaked.

they still give advance/promo copies.. they have randoms tags throughout..

alot of albums get rearranged last minute, thats the real reason why alot of cats waiting for leaks been getting em so late..

True. Labels are more efficient now than in the past.

There used to be fully completed albums just sitting there waiting for a release date. Now it seems like budgets are only opened for projects that they know they follow through on

Cause releasing "albums" for free has gotten quite popular, and artists can just do that if the label is stalling on them

The year 3030
I think Canibus did it best for Lyrical Law's release. He pretty much pressed all them sh!ts himself and shipped it out himself...and the iTunes/digtal version differs from the retail CD.

But realistically, that's unfeasible for Jay, Ye, etc. to do...but if they could, that'd probably be the perfect way to stop leaks completely until after the fact.

How did jay and yeezy do it before? not get throne to leak early?

Them nikkas has literal FBI agents following them around with that shyt. They kept two copies of the album on a flash drive that they each carried around 24/7 and some other stuff that I can't remember. But Jay spoke on all of this in an interview around the release. I think Guru did too

I believe Mike Dean was the primary engineer for that album, and he was the person who was trusted with the files. I remember reading that the album was kept in a suitcase, and the only way to open it was with a fingerprint ID reader.

Read that too. They went through ALOT of shyt to keep it from leaking.

It worked too, Im surprised other artist havent attempted this to keep their material from leaking.

Look at all the supposed Detox leaks over the years....everytime something Dr. Dre did became public, he would say his gmail got hacked. When will they learn...
