#11 Locoroco Remastered
(PSP,PSV,PS4) - Metacritic 79
Approximate Play Time: 4 Hours
I never did play this or the 2nd one when it came out on PSP, Patapon either. I saw this and the sequel on a flash sale for a few bucks each and figured why not.
It's laid out like a typical platformer, the game has 5 worlds with 8 levels in each. Though to be honest the world's didn't seem to matter. Every world was made up of the exact same type of levels. A winter type level in each world etc. In fact near the end the game repeated itself so much, using similar music and level design.
I used the game as a pallet cleanser between gaming sessions, playing a couple levels a day. To be honest I don't think I would have played more than that ever. It's not a game meant for long sessions. The game is very much showing its handheld roots and meant for quick play sessions. Which is fine. The main problem is the controls. You use the shoulder buttons to tilt the world to move your character,on the handheld you tilted the screen. And it doesn't work out that well. Every level is really easy to beat but trying g to find all the collectibles required more precision and patience and I found myself being frustrated by how imprecise and clunky the controls were.
The one thing it has in spades is charm. It's oozing with charm, and even when you get frustrated it's hard to be mad at a game that had me smiling a lot at the quirkiness. Overall it was just an easy distraction in between playing Resident Evil games. I just wish it was better designed.
