After using it for a bit I can say that most the issues that some reviewers are trying to hang themselves on are non issue. Quest 3 having a higher FOV is just people complaining about metrics that they can see on a sheet but doesnt have any real world shortcoming to compare it. The images are displayed in 8K. Thats definitely worth a few degrees with that much of a resolution bump over Q3 with does most its content in 1080 anyway. Its only sometimes in 4K and never 8K and never this clear.
Thats why its best to stick to MKBHDs review or Dave2D because they are pretty accurate about what it does, what the shortcomings are and if those are ACTUALLY shortcomings that matter at all. The only REAL question about this thing is it worth the price and is it gaming oriented enough for people that wanted it for gaming. Its not a gaming headset. And I get exactly why they didnt want to call it one just because it uses a lot of the same tech. A Mini Cooper isnt a Ram 1500. They use the exact same tech but they clearly serve different functions. Saying why pay $70k for a pickup truck when you can get a Honda Fit for $18k is what this boils down to. Those reviewers are trying to make a name for themselves just being contrarian and not comparing apples to apples unless it fits their intent. Stick with reviewers who made a living off reveiwing this and already had millions of followers because some reviews from people I saw are trying to use their hot takes to springboard their channel into something more. Even some bigger channels that have a decent amount of followers but videos dont do numbers are trying to do that like The Verge. They built up that review with so much production that it was clear they were trying to use this to get followers. Those issues he brought up are not unique to Vision or not real issues.
Its definitely more productivity oriented so people who dont work from their computers really shouldnt even be asking "whats the point?" when you dont have a job or even a hobby that requires productivity based tech. Now those of us that do CAN ask that question of "Is it worth it?" and "whats the point?". I can say off the rip that it isnt worth the price. Maybe when more features unlock and they actually focus on gaming (the M2 chip in it would kill any standalone VR headset so thats not even a question of COULD it play those games) but right now, naw it isnt worth $3500. It eliminates the need for a monitor and Apple's monitor is $1600 and only 27". I made my screen my entire wall the screen so it had to have been the equivalent of 200" screen and that was 4K video.
If i had to use my own money, I wouldnt have bought it. If I had, I would be impressed with the quality thus far but would feel like it needs to do more than I can currently do with it. I wouldnt regret the purchase yet, but I'd be waiting to see how it went in the next couple months to know if I regretted it. Obviously, if $3500 is too much for you to spend on a laptop or a OLED tv for yourself then I dunno why you are even in the thread complaining about something you cant afford anyway but people are strange in that way.
Short answer is its nice, makes consuming content (movies, sports, streaming) even better than existing VR and is expensive. Too soon to say if its a waste of money but if youre someone that drops $2k on an OLED tv or $3k on a gaming laptop then this isnt really some unusually expensive tech purchase. Some folks are cool with a $400 tv and $400 laptop. But those folks shouldnt be talking in the first place.
