What does the market share look like...

I love the Foundation books, but the idea that it can be the next GoT is LAUGHABLE. To the point it makes me think this article is written by an Apple homer. Game Of Thrones is on another stratosphere and likely won't be replicated anytime soon (even with a prequel...) - and certainly not by a hard science fiction series. Taking random, seminal (but not super casual friendly) book series and throwing black people in it is not the recipe for the next huge show that becomes a pop culture phenomenon.

If I was Apple and wanted #content for my shyt, I would not have greenlit Foundation. That is not the wave. Diversifying old shyt like that isn't going to work...black people don't care, white nerds get mad, and you're left with something that's too heady/confusing for casuals to give a shyt about.
Apple’s streaming service, though, didn’t immediately take off in the same way. Apple TV Plus was late to the streaming party, with big-hitters Netflix and Amazon Prime Video having eaten up most of the market by the time it launched in 2019. Even in 2021, the service maintains a lowly 5% audience share, just 2% below HBO Max but some 10% below Disney Plus (according to data obtained by streaming analyst JustWatch).

Didn't Ted Lasso season just end this week? Lets see if they can get people interested these last 3 months. I have a free 3 month trial but haven't found much there.

Mahershala Ali Sci-Fi Drama Swan Song Will Premiere In Theaters And On Apple TV On The Same Day
Apple TV+
BY JOSHUA MEYER/SEPT. 15, 2021 8:26 PM EDT/UPDATED: SEPT. 16, 2021 4:19 PM EDT
There are two movies named "Swan Song" coming to us in the second half of 2021: one of them sees Mahershala Ali leading a top-shelf cast that includes Glenn Close, Naomie Harris, Awkwafina, and Adam Beach. The other one stars Udo Kier and is a Magnolia Pictures release, which already hit VOD in August.

With all due respect to Kier, it's the Ali-led "Swan Song" that merits attention here. Not only because of its stacked ensemble cast but because it marks another get for Apple, which continues to attract top talent and expand its line of original movies.

Collider reports that "Swan Song," will arrive in theaters and on Apple TV+ on December 17, 2021. That almost makes it seem like Apple could be positioning it as an Oscar contender. If so, it wouldn't be the first time Ali was attached to one of those. He's a two-time Best Supporting Actor winner already for "Moonlight" and "Green Book."

"Swan Song" is written and directed by Benjamin Cleary. Here's the film's plot synopsis:

Set in the near future, Swan Song is a powerful, emotional journey, exploring how far someone will go, and how much they'll sacrifice, to make a happier life for the people they love.
Collider notes that Ali's character, Cameron, "must decide whether or not to alter his family's fate, and grapple with how far he is willing to go in order to guarantee a happier life for those he loves." Close plays his doctor; she's an eight-time Oscar nominee, though somehow, she's been robbed of an actual win.

Clone Movies and Clone Titles
Apple TV+
While some filmmakers (namely, Edgar Wright) do check IMDb before settling on a title for their films, the phrase "swan song" is generic enough that it's understandable why the same title might be cloned across two movies that are coming so close together on the 2021 release calendar. Somehow, this one slipped through the cracks, and I'm sure there might be viewers out there who get confused when they are googling about "Swan Song" and seeing images of Udo Kier pop up in place of Mahershala Ali.

That said, a clone movie starring Ali is an interesting prospect.

With films like Joel Coen's "The Tragedy of Macbeth" and Martin Scorsese's "Killers of the Flower Moon" on the way — not to mention new episodes of "Ted Lasso" — Apple TV+ is slowly becoming more "worth it" as a streaming option. This week, we spotlighted 10 other Apple TV+ movies that justify a subscription. We could probably work up another whole list like that just with upcoming Apple TV+ movies that give us reason to be excited.

"Swan Song," starring Mahershala Ali, is one of those. The movie flies to theaters and Apple TV+ on December 17, 2021.

Before he sinks his teeth into the role of Blade the vampire hunter for Marvel Studios, two time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali will star in Swan Song for AppleTV+. The "genre-bending drama" is an original feature film that will join the fledgling streaming service's slate of movies and also receive a theatrical release.
This afternoon, Apple sent out a press release announcing that production on Swan Song will begin this spring with Ali producing and playing the lead role of Milo. Adam Shulman (Defending Jacob) and Jacob Perlin (The Amazing Johnathan Documentary) are producing as well. Here's what the movie will be about:

Set in the near future, the film explores how far someone will go, and how much they'll sacrifice, to make a happier life for the people they love.
Benjamin Cleary will make his feature directing debut on the project. Cleary won an Academy Award for Best Original Short Film in 2016 for writing and directing Stutterer, and went on to make two more shorts in the years that followed: Wave, which won 14 awards at film festivals around the world, and Glimpse, a VR experience. Check out the trailers for all three of Cleary's shorts below:

Netflix has nothing to be worried about, too much content. Too much variety.

Apple TV is getting better and I hope Foundation turns out to be good, but they have a while to go before Hulu should be worried, let alone Netflix or Amazon Prime Video.

This article was Apple PR more than news. LOL
Fact is right now Apple needs to buy a studio, or they will just be a distributor.

Amazon bought MGM studios because they need that catalog.
There really is no one left on the table but Sony, Sony movies is a loser for Sony as a whole, but they still seem to keep it around but if they could offload it for the 8bill that MGM sold to Amazon for, it could buy Sony the company some cash on hand and time to reorg.
But Netflix and Sony seem to be operating in tandem right now, so Apple looks like its on the fringe of content creaion
Sony’s not for sale
Lions gate is available
