And I'm pretty sure that's why they're asking for this much, they are keenly aware of how profitable the company is as a whole.
The biggest myth ever told is that paying workers more would have a catastrophic effect on a companies bottom line. Amazon gave their lowest tier workers a raise from $14 to $19.50 and it didnt affect their bottom line at all, in fact their share prices have gone up since then.
McDonald's paying $15 an hour and still making an ungodly amount of cash.
You'll never convince me that Apple, a company that pays Chinese kids pennies on the dollar to manufacture $1500 phones and rakes in billions a year in profits, cant afford to pay a living wage. I dont care if people feel like service work isnt dignified enough to deserve decent pay.

No it won't. It's an empty threat they use so the bosses don't have to take pay cuts to pay their employees.
If the cost is too high, people won't buy and they know it. Its the same as when they threaten to off shore the jobs. The balance of power over the last 50 years has swung wildly to the bosses and managers when for decades before it was in the hands of labor. Thats when america was 'great'
