Why give it credence...
I've seen arguments about racial bias on the list and while there was clearly a dismissal of r&b for much of the list, there's also a pretty stark dismissal of a lot of white rock and pop artists from various eras. Which tells me the issue was less about racial bias and more about this being a collection of voters who simply don't listen to a lot of music beyond a mixture of obvious classics and new "classics" - both of which boil down to albums that sold a lot. I'd bet that 97% of the voters never listened to an Anita Baker album in their life. At the same time it's clearly the vast majority never listened to a Fiona Apple, Neutral Milk Hotel, Joanna Newsom, Sufjan Stevens, Interpol, or even White Stripes album. Which makes sense when many of the artists who voted were infants or kids in the early 2000s lol.
Entire decades, movements, and genres of music were overlooked because the voters were focusing on the most obvious albums that sold a lot of tend to be on older lists.
