As a black man, I must vote or I would be disrespecting my ancestors who were beat, hosed and jailed fighting for the rights we have today. TS, as a middle eastern man, you probably can't relate to how we feel.

Everywhere
do you give full credit to lbj for passing civil rights, just curious :yeshrug:
That's not how our government works though.

I get what t/s is saying but not voting because we don't run some kind of theocracy is a little ignorant to me.

The president shapes opinion of the population and the party, you'd think after what happened during the Bush years people would understand this.

Even if one has to justify "the lesser evil" theory you should always vote because that's the only way to speak out. Not to even mention that there's more on the ballots than just the president. There's Congress, local gov, and local issues that affect the community that you live in that these politicians let people decide on.

We have this right that was fought and bleed for and then people throw it away for some misguided apathy for the system. Sorry America's not perfect but it's better than most places and I just don't understand this type of thinking at all.

If Bush was never elected, we would have never gone into Iraq and millions of lives would be different now. If you think it doesn't matter who wins, then your an idiot.

agreed on that. i thought you were singling out the point he made about eventualities. i voted my first time around and probably will this time around too. i voted for barack because, i knew, even if he didnt accomplish anything in office, the precedent of his election and ideals would be a good one to set for the country. trust, i get that.

however, i see where he is coming from too. the military industrial complex and the big money behind it is what runs shyt, and the cia/fbi/nsa is what ensures that everything is going according to plan. the prez is important for international relations, some social movements perhaps and can help shape the ideologies of the populace, but in terms of active power, it is slim to none.

WELL LEMME ASK YOU SUMTHIN BROTHER! ARE YOU VOTING FOR ANY STATE OR LOCAL CANDIDATES? IF NOT, WHY NOT DUDE? AREN'T THEY YOUR DIRECT REPRESENTATION BROTHER? SURE MAYBE THE NATIONAL ELECTIONS WON'T AFFECT YOUR PERSONAL LIFE, BUT WHAT ABOUT YOUR GOVERNOR? YOUR CONGRESSMAN? YOUR SENATOR? THE MANY INITIATIVES THAT MAY BE ON YOUR BALLOT?

THE PRESIDENT DOESN'T CONTROL THE GOVERNMENT BY HIMSELF, BROTHER! THE MEGAPOWERS OF THE THREE BRANCHES HAVE TO COLLIDE, DUDE!
